Q&A With Jay Lyon Of Tamarama

If Tamarama sounds familiar to you it's probably because you've seen them on MTV's The City. Originally from Australia, the guys recently moved to New York where we caught up with Jay Lyon who dished to J-14 about their debut disc, dating Whitney Port, MTV's The City and more!

J-14: The debut album is called Wonderland City. Where does the title come from?
Jay : In 1906, Tamarama beach [in Australia] was actually an amusement park called Wonderland City.

J-14: What's it's like to be on MTV and The City?
Jay: Universal came to us and said the girls from The Hills requested you play a show for them at this restaurant. We ended up going to play this show and that's when I met Whitney. It was a natural way we met and we really hit it off. The fact that I started this whole project with her there has made it a lot easier for me.

J-14: Is it difficult to see your relationship on TV?
Jay: It definitely was a weird start to a relationship. At the end of the day the feelings are real between me and Whitney, so it hasn't been that hard. For Tamarama, it gives us a chance to really get out there on a large scale, so we take the good with the bad. Obviously we are going to have haters no matter which way we look at it, especially with something like this. But at the end of the day, people actually take a second to listen to the music and listen to what we're doing, and most people have been pretty impressed.

J-14: Is there really as much drama as we see on The Hills all the time?
Jay: It's a heightened reality at the end of the day. They're really cool people. MTV will do what they do. But apart from that, we all knew what we signed up for. Obviously they are going to play with the situation as much as they can because they're trying to make a TV show and you've got to keep it interesting for viewers.
