You might recognize Thriving Ivory from hearing their song, "Angels on the Moon" on Gossip Girl. J-14 chatted with the band -- Clayton Stroope, Drew Cribley, Scott Jason, Bret Cohune and Paul Niedermier -- to talk about their music, a super-embarrassing fan encounter, and more!

J-14: Where did the name Thriving Ivory come from?
Thriving Ivory: We were writing stuff down on a piece of paper and the two kind of fit together and stuck.

J-14: How would you describe your sound?
Thriving Ivory: Dramatic, story-telling, and emotional. We want people to get the same feeling listening to the record as they would in a live show.

J-14: What is the song "Angels on the Moon" about?
Thriving Ivory: The lyrics are very hopeful, but general enough that we get different interpretations all the time. It's not one of those songs that's about anything specific. One guy thought it was about the Yankees.

J-14: Have you had a crazy fan encounter?
Thriving Ivory: There was a show in Northern California and we were at the merchandise table signing and selling CDs. We all had our Sharpies out and this girl wanted to take a picture. She passed off the camera to her friend and she came over and stood next to us. I went to put my arm around her and I totally elbowed her right in the jaw and then as my arm went over the other side of her face and the Sharpie just drew all the way down her face, down to her shoulder. She showed us the picture afterwards and my face is bright red and she's smiling and has this big Sharpie mark. It looks like she's crying black all the way down her face.
