Q&A With Jesse Lee

Country singer Jesse Lee, stopped by the J-14 offices to chat about her music (her debut album hits stores in September), her fear of the "National Anthem," her celebrity crush (hint: It's the same as Selena's!), and more!

J-14: How would you describe your sound?
Jesse: My sound is young, fun and relatable!

J-14: What do you think of the comparisons between you and Taylor Swift?
Jesse: We're the same in that we're both young and play guitar, but I write more about falling in and out of love in the older sense. I'm a huge Taylor fan. I remember crying my eyes out listening to her.

J-14: Did you ever deal with bullying when you were younger?
Jesse: I had this thing that my Mom found called hair mascara and I would matte down my bangs with blue and the orange. I remember I went to school and everyone made fun of me so I went in the bathroom and washed it out. I felt really bad. If I could do that over, I'd be like, "You know what? That's me. Whatever. I thought it was fun and I think it's cool."

J-14: What's your most embarrassing on stage moment?
Jesse: Forgetting the words to a song is embarrassing. To this day I am terrified of the "National Anthem." It makes me really nervous. I was about 10 or 11, and I was on the big jumbotron singing and I almost got through the whole song and I'm like, "O say can you see..." and I'm just standing there -- this little girl in pig tails and braces -- mortified. This is the first time that all my friends had come see me sing. It was horrible. I remembered the words 15 seconds later. I sang the song a couple of times after that and every time I had to tape the words on my arm!

J-14: Who is your biggest celebrity crush?
Jesse: Shia LaBeouf. Maybe it's just the writer of Tranformers who makes his lines funny or how he delivers them, but I he's such a cute actor. His personality seems really cool!
