At our school, we don't really have much of a dress code. We can wear anything, except tank tops and short shorts. In 7th grade we have to do more of a dress code. We have to wear a solid colored shirt, black, white or tan skirts or pants, and a belt. I think we should be able to wear whatever kind of pants we want.

FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION FOR EVERYONE!!! :D

i don't see why we have uniforms. i HATE my school's uniform. its so strict, we havve to wear uniform socks!!!!! once a month we get a dress down day, but there's even a dress code for that.

Our school has a dress code and it bites. I wore a pair of short-shorts to school but with tights under them. I got in trouble. I don't see how thats possible. They always send people to the princible because they're showing too much skin, but I had tights and didn't show ANY part of skin yet they made me call home and ask my mom to bring me something else to ware and when she didn't show up the gave me a spike. ( which is like a punishment for our school) I was sooo mad, but my friends and parents stood up for me and told the teachers that it wasen't fair because alot of girls did that and i was like the only one to get caught.

I can understand why there's a dress code cuz they don't want anybody flashing the whole school, but I do think it's a little strict. We can't even wear tube tops!

If we wear something against the dress code, our teacher finds us something stinky and disgusting from the Lost and Found that nobody claims. It usually has some big stain on it. Very gross

All my life I have had to wear a uniform for school. It sucks! we have to wear these long skirts and a white golf shirt and black shoes.(no heels) and on mondays we have to wear this sweater with a dress shirt and a tie!.(IM A GIRL) and we cant wear nail polish, or wear jewlery or write on our arms or hands.
at my old school we had to wear blazers too.

well u know that when girls wear racy tank tops and shorts, it distracts guys and makes them not concentrate on their school work.. ur supposed to go to school to learn... and if u want to dress cute go ahead, just make it appropriate if u will... im not trying to seem uptight or anything- its just that u ppl will survive... u dont have to b complaining about the dress code.. im sure u can find shorts that go to ur finger tip or just buy a cardigan to go over ur strappy tanks..

Oh, and if you are caught with any dress code violation, they just tell u to call your mom or dad to bring you an extra change of clothes. That's it!

My school has a really strict dress code too. No holes above the knee, no spaghetti straps, shorts/skirts have to come down past your middle finger. And I don't like it but I can live with it cuz I know the hoes at my school. But we aren't allowed to dye our hair any unnatural color and that is the gayest rule ever. In my school we have uniforms. I think uniforms are good and bad. Their good because I can just throw on my uniform in the morning when I am all tired but they are also bad because they aren't so comfortable. My uniform is a pleated navy skirt (past the knee) and a blue, yellow, or pink long sleeve polo with the school logo. We are only allowed to wear solid socks, no nail polish, and we have to wear are hair up. When people complain about their schools I just laugh because well, look at my school!

I have to wear a plaid skirt that makes me look like I'm Scottish, a short sleeved white blouse, and a hoodie. my school dress code isnt that strict. we dont have uniforms. we are allowed to wear flip flops and pretty much any shoes we want. we are not allowed to wear anything sleeveless. a lot of kids do wear tank tops and stuff but it depends on what teachers see you wearing it. some teachers could care less and others are really strict and will make you change or put a sweatshirt on. even if its really hot out. your shorts are supposed to be atleast at your fingertips when you have your arms put up against your sides. but no one really follows that one and nobody gets in trouble for it. so ya my school i guess is pretty cool w/ the dress code. except for the tank top thing. Well, I just finished 6th grade, which is the last year in elementary school. At my elementary school, we didn't have uniforms. We could wear mostly anything we wanted except tanktops had to have straps at least 3 inches wide, no hats, and our shorts couldn't be shorter than where your fingertips were if your arms were at your sides. Also, NO CLEAVAGE!! They pretty much directed this rule at the "clique" (which is what we call our populars.) Really, they were just getting us ready for Jr.High by saying this. They never got mad at us if we violated the dress code in Elementary school. But people I know who went to Jr.High this year said they're A LOT more strict there! But you know what? Oh well! There's nothing I can do about it! I'm a good student, so I'm not going to disobey the rules! Anywho, I really don''t mind the dress code!

Well last year in middle school they came up with the stupidest dress code! We had to wear collared shirts with three buttons! it was extremly hard to find! so all the girls had Hollister shirts! and the shirts couldnt have strips! it was soooo stupid! and as shorts go, they had to be an ID tag (3 inches) between your knee and the bottom of the shorts! and your jeans couldnt be riped at all. We couldnt wear flip-flops or sandels. All shoes had to be closed toe and heal.. And they even had a dress code for p.e.! you either had to buy the school uniform or bring maroon shorts and a grey shirt! and if you didnt have the right color or the uniform at all you got a zero! And we had to wear ID tags everyday and if you took it off for like a second to fix it or something they would yell at you! and you had to use this lanyard that they gave you and you couldnt use any other one! i hated it!

im sooo glad that this year im going to high school where theres like no dress code at all!

yes.I hate it so much. the little kids are allowed to wear spaghetti straps and short shorts but not us. I understand how the teachers don't want us to look but we should get a bit more freedom.

At my high school - now we don't have a real dress code except for the normal no spaghetti straps, baggy pants, and shorts && dresses that aren't 'finger tip length'. But during middle school we did have a dress code that involved us wearing either blue or white collared shirts, black or khaki pants, and sometimes we could even wear jeans + the normal school district dress code that i have now. We couldn't even wear hoodies over our school outfits when it was cold outside unless you keep it open [which ruined the whole idea of wearing one] or if it was a school hoodie you could wear it but who pays for a school hoodie. I personally think they charge a little too much for school logo printed clothing and yearbooks. I thought that was totally unfair but most people liked to argue that that's not really a uniform. I argue that its still something that really narrowed our choices down to what we could put on in the morning and that I couldn't think of one student who actually thought that was fair. Now i know that my brother and sister have real complete outfits that are required to wear. that would kill me if i had to have gone through that. I think that the uniforms in Gossip Girl don't really count as uniforms because those kids have the choice to do whatever they want with the outfits from changing what shirt they wear to putting on accessories to make it look nothing like what everyone else is wearing. That would have gotten me detention at my old school. School is nothing like it is in the movies. Expression is tough to have when you are required to wear the exact same thing as everyone else in the school. What is that like 2-3 thousand people?

when i used to be in elementary school we had no dress code but then in the 7 th grade we ended up having uniforms i liked it cause they were cute and we were allowed to used necklaces, earrings and bangels but everyone started to rolled them to short skirts til the 8 th grade then in h.s we had the most dumbest dress code in the summer we can only use tank tops and capris or bermuda shorts that are not flattering to short ppl like myself unless u use high heels. then in college i was so happy cause there was no dress code so everyone used whatever they wanted :)

The rules about thin straps and short shorts make sense, but I think it's wrong that they're telling people who have to wear uniforms what to wear. We shouldn't get punished for expressing our own unique style.

Okay. I know ALOT of people hate dress codes. That makes 2 of us. Dress codes make you insolated from wearing what you want to wear, which effects the performance of personality. I would want to be exposed to wearing what WE want to wear. But, it shouldn't be innapropriatte. IN MY OPINION.

Right now our scool dress code is not that bad but when I get to high school (1 year) there are uniforms.
I have seen my brothers uniforms and my older friends and they are kind of nice. Anyway, lots of people don't know this but uniforms are to protect you- if you see someone walking around the school with no uniform then that person may or may not be part of the school. they could be a killer or something and without the uniform they are easy to spot.

We have a dress code. but its not that bad. i go to a traditional school so they think higher of us i guess idk... we have to have our shirts tucked in. its sucks. we can wear pants of the colors:khaki,black,and blue; and shirts red,white, and dark blue. ya would think with a dress code ppl wouldnt compete with each others but they still do on wat brand ur uniform is and its stupid. but we have dress down days once a month but ya have to pay $3.00 its bullcrap but wateve.

This year my dress code was khaki pants and a red polo. I'm in a private school and I have to wear a uniform but it's not the end of the world cause we dont have to be all crazy each morning to find something to wear but sometimes we have days that you can wear whatever you want soo it's nice.

I hated my junior high school dress code. I understand that a uniform is so you won't be judged if you are rich or not, and I respected that part but they did some really messed up things.

We weren't allowed to have our hair down if it pasted our shoulders and when we had our hair up we had to use this annoying school schruchie that cost 5 bucks and you could not wear any other headband while wearing the scrunchie. If you had hair that didn't past the shoulder you still had to wear the school headband that was so bulky. Then we can only have one peircing per a ear and no makeup or nail polish. Even when we didn't have to wear uniform the dress code was still so strict. We could not wear tanks, flats, jeans that are to tight, leggings, and shorts. Boys couldn't even wear shorts past the knee.

Then what I hated the most was that the girls who never follow the rules never get in trouble, when the girls who never do anything wrong get in trouble for forgetting a scrunchie for one day when other girls don't even bother to put their hair up.

i go to a private school so we have to wear uniforms. our dress code says we can't wear jackets or make-up of nail polis, but the teachers don't really enforce it, so everyone wears jackets and make-up, etc. but our uniforms make us girls look like old ladies! they're so dumb. the guys just wear a polo and pants, us girls have to wear skirts to our KNEES, ugly polos that MUST BE TUCKED IN, and these ties that can be cute if you wear it right. but i feel sorry for the bigger girls because the shirts are kinda tight, u figure it out lol.

Thankfully, our school doesn't make us wear uniforms. I haven't had 2 wear uniforms since Kindergarten. We can pretty much wear whatever we want 2 school, as long as it's appropiate.

You have to wear collared shirts but only with a solid color, and last year they loosened up and let us wear crew cut solid colored shirts but if the neck line is just a tad low we have to go down the office and buy a school shirt (which btw are reaalllyy ugly) even if its almost the end of the day

Ugh, yes. Shorts have to be to your knees. Seriously? Girls are walking around with shorts that look more like underwear with leggings under them. It looks hideous. Skirts are probably gonna need to be to our ankles next... BTW, I looked at the polls page and what the heck is up with all the purity ring stuff? That's a personal choice. It doesn't matter which celebrities wear them or how many friends of yours do, too. It's NOT A BIG DEAL. I don't wear one but it's not like I'm planning on sleeping with someone before I'm married! At our school we have to wear white golf t-shirts and black pants. You could either get your uniform from Uniform basics or Mc Carthy. Uniform Basics is cheaper and their tops aren't so nice but their pants are great. Mc Carthy has great tops but horrible pants. Our sweaters are okay but I hate them cause their kinda baggy. And the sad thing is we get in trouble for wearing colored tank tops or t-shirts underneath!! And are shoes also have to be all black. This girl got in trouble once because she had orange laces instead of black like come on!!! I really want skirts at our school but they banned them. It realli sucks.

The school admid said the day before me and my best friend and a few ther people all wore our pajamas to school that if we wore PJ's, we would get detention. We did anyway and I walked right by the vice principle and she didnt even care. :D lol.

My school has a wicked strict dress code!! girls have to wear a khaki skirt below the knee, nylons(tights), dress shoes, and Oxford blouse(dress shirt, buttons up and down), and a navy blue sweater...EVERY DAY!!!!!!
and if u don't u get a notice of correction(N.O.C) if you get 1 you just need ur parents to sign it, if u get 2 you need ur parents to sign them and you get a lunch/recess detention, and if u get 3 you get you need your parents to sign it and you get a 1hour detention after-school!!!! and they always catch u if u disobey the dress code!!!!! the good thing is that we get a dress downy day once a month!!

I attend to a catholic high school. They are not so pretty, but i have to have them on everyday. its ok. I think ITS FINE. But its ok cause every friday we dress in are high school shirts with jeans. But just 4 years n then COLLEGE HERE I COME. WEAR ANYTHING.

I think that dress codes can be annoying, but they are not pointless. I had a dress code for nine years and I am excited to be out of it, but I am glad that I got the chance to make friends based on ME, and not my clothes. It can be hard for people who can't afford a lot of clothes to fit in at school, and with a dress code you just need a few copies of the same clothes.

Dress codes also give opportunities for using your creativity to present your individuality. Accessories and hair are just some of the fun ways people show their personality in a dress code.

The dress code can blend together friends of all different financial backgrounds and encourage modesty while dressing. I think dress codes have a great purpose. (although i am excited not to have one next year!! haha)

Into first period we have to stand up and wait until the teacher say we can sit down. during the school year my first period teacher send about five kids to the offers every morning. we are not aloud to wear tank tops, tube tops, skiers that go above your keens, shouts that are supper shout. If I could change the dress code i would. make it so any one can wear what they went to wear.

I hate my school uniform it really sucks! Now we have this new principal and shes putting all these new rules.. Now in my school you can't wear sweaters that say something on them (they need to be solid) WTF is this principal's problem! Go buy everyone so dammn sweaters you like! Because i am still gonna wear all my hollister sweaters and more! She provably thinks everyone is rich or sumthing! actually my school does have a dress code ... and I hate it !!
My school's dress code is so boring and its so strict. Basicaly every day ther's a monitor going around , checking our clothes , to see if they fit the school's dress code. We arent even allowed Jeans !!! But , its really strict. They even tell us how many buttons should be on our polos !
Personally , I dont think having a dress code screams persoality. I mean a lot of people (including myself) would like to show who they are through fashion and through their choice of clothing. Its unfair and I am disappointed with my school's dress code. I just wish we could wear whatever we want !!!

I have long arms and at my school shorts have to be to the top of ur fingers. So one day I wore a pair of shorts that I thought weren't too short and I got yelled at and I had to wear another girls gym shorts that were too big. The teacher barley ever yells at anyone but me and I am a good student!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some other girl wore a short skirt and she didn't get yelled at. Also one girl wore a string tank top and short shorts and she didn't get yelled at.

All my life I have had to wear a uniform for school. It sucks! we have to wear these long skirts and a white golf shirt and black shoes.(no heels) and on mondays we have to wear this sweater with a dress shirt and a tie!.(IM A GIRL) and we cant wear nail polish, or wear jewlery or write on our arms or hands.
at my old school we had to wear blazers too.

I feel bad for you. I can write on my hands. (I always put Mrs. Cullen on my hands and nobody cares!) And we can wear whatever nail polish and jewelry we want. I wear orange nail polish from claire's and i make it look c-u-t-e! And I wear a cross necklace and rubber bracelets. But next year for seventh grade i am going to a new school with uniforms! Ugh! I hate uniforms! "OOOH! Everyone will look the same so there is no bullying!" There will still be bullying, and people can't look the same no matter what! When I was in elementary school, there was uniforms, and this one boy wore the same shirt every day I could tell because there was a big stain on the front, and he had a bad haircut. Half his head was buzzcut and the rest was rob pattinson messy! It was in florida before I moved so he only spoke spanish too!

In my school the dress code is to wear your uniform, it doesnt matter how short your skirt is. As long as you wear the uniform its alright.

at my school, were not allowed 2 where spaghetti straps or tank tops tht r 3 "adult fingers wide", and we r only allowed 2 where the adias flip flops! how stupid is tht, and under evry shirt we where, we have 2 where a cami under it. i where camis evryday regardless if i wud hav 2 or not. and r shirts have 2 be up 2 where r hands wud be if we put our hands around our collar bone! i can see this tho, cuz they dnt wnt the boys staring dwn our shirts looking at our boobs. but the 8th graders get 2 show whtevr they wnt, and dnt get in truble 4 it!!! and they wear the flip flops with the thongy thingy, not fair, but whtevr its summer so i can walk dwn the street in whtevr i wnt! :D i

omg, I go to Catholic school and the dress code sucks! No makeup, no jewelery(except for watches and those rubber livestrong bracelets) no elaborate headbands, no dyed hair... and the list goes on. The only good thing about it is that nobody's clothes are like "cooler" than mine. LOL

ok well @ my school we can wear skirts waith leggings...but the skirt has to be 3in.s above the nee or longer. it is sooo annoying. at my elementary school gurls got to wear hats but bois didnt but now at da middle school we cant its not fair at all. we cant have pants tht have holes above da nee not even 4 boi's!!!it is insane and it even hot at mi school!

i go to a catholic school. we have uniforms and i like them. they are white,light blue,navy blue and red polos with our school name and symbol in the corner and then we have navy blue,yellow,white,and maroon plaid skirt and tan skirts i am going into sixth grade so i wear a skirt but below 5th kids wear jumpers/dresses ilike how we lookk like the people from jonas! we even have mathching socks,headbands,hairties,and sweaters!

At my High School we have a whole printed book of our school rules, and EVERY student gets one. We have to wear knee-lenght plaid skirts, can only wear PINK shades of nail polish, almost NO jewelry, and shoes that have a BACK STRAP! Oh, and did i mention those collared shirts we have to wear?!

Our school's dress code isn't bad at all. We have to wear shoe's with backs. Our pants have to reach our fingertips (which is a bit bad, since I have long fingers), and our sleeves have to be the width of three of our fingers. I'm not sure about anything else, though.

i HATE our school dress code. we're not allowed to wear flip flops, "obseen" shirts, pants with holes in them (even if they're the smallest hole), tank tops, and this year we're not going to be allowed to wear hoodies. like just because there's kids in our school who aren't the best students wear their hoods too, doesn't mean that the rest of the school shouldn't be allowed to wear them too. i don't think uniforms are totally fair because people like to express themselves, and when you wear a uniform you can't really do that, like you can still accessorize, but the people in my school dress a lotttt different then each other. if we ever had to get uniforms, i wouldn't wear it, i'd probably get suspended but who cares. and now, if you wear something "inappropiate", you have to change into your gym outfit, or go home and get something else to wear (or someone sends something in).

OMG, uniforms r sooooooo not nice!! They r tots ugly, one day My bff and I were walking around in Montreal ( with parent guidence,) and we saw these kids come out it plaid navy skirts and regular navy t shirts with ties. We srsly washed out our eyes, like, thirty times after seeing it.

I HATE THE STUPID DRESS CODE MY SCHOOL HAS!!! We have to wear the ugliest uniforms, and even the color of our shoes are dictated! There are only four colors we're allowed to have on our shoes, and they are black, navy blue, white, and brown. SO LAME!! Ughh!! And even our socks are dictated also! They have to be plain white and tall enough to cover our ankles. No no-show socks, and they can't even be a solid plain color, like red or yellow. I HATE MY STUPID PRINCIPLE!! She made that dumb dress code... oh and did I mention that we can't wear open toe shoes? Not even on a dress down day!! And also it was a dress down day and I got bickered at for wearing a shirt that went up a little bit sometimes. OK, you can see a centimeter of my skin on my stomach, big deal.

oh and sometimes on dress down days we have to pay to wear our own clothes to school...ON A DRESS DOWN DAY! And don't you guys think that we should wear our own clothes to school? Get this...on top of wearing a uniform which is really boring and uncomfortable let me tell u that, we HAVE to wear black socks. Its like they want to turn us all into like freak clones or something. i go to a private school now and i'm a freshmen. and i like the shirts b/c there is soo many colors to choose from! but the bottoms are hideous! well skirts got banned about 9 years ago and now they make us where pants, no skirts! ugh the pants can either be white, khkai, or black. and the worst part is no underwhere lines are aloud to show and it is a big deal bc then the pants are huge and it's not easy when your short b/c the pants are wayy to big and u just look stupid! while i am at tht school i am going to try to make the dress code a little less strict. wish me luck(:

At my school I have to wear a uniform and at first we had skirts but by the time i started highschool they took it out cause the girls were earing it to high so now we have pants and a rugby instead of a blazer and shirt and i dont mind it its comfortable but u get really hot in it all warm days. our (OLD PRINCIPAL!!!) had this huge stickt dress code.we had the whole "Three finger rule" and the "Your skirts riding up to high miss. hazel pull it down befor i have to call ur mother!"
she stated to let up with the short shorts, as long ad no one saw ur underwer ur okay.
but on the last day of school just to PO our princaipal we all wor like mini skirts and tube tops. it was funn
only on a really hott day alot of girls wor like on (GASP!) 2 finger width straps. she made was where HUGE LUMPY SWEAT SHIRTS! UGLY OONES!!
she even gave me detention for having my fly down...
like wow. i just went to the bathroom and i forgot to put my fly up. jeeZ
and some girl who got suspended for geting her lip periced. our principlal was okay with her eye brow percing and nose percing and even when she got snake bites. but she got one little lip ring and orderd her to take out all of her percings and she siad "no they will get infected, and i want to keep them i like them"
and when the princpal called her mother saying that shes refusing to take out her percings her mom flipped out on her! she spent money on thous and she did it cuz she liked how it made her feel differnt and our principal wanted to take her individuality from her, like wow!!!

- no bra strap can show. even by accedent like when u were a 4 finger tanktop it shows the straps then u get detention

- no skate bording shoes :S
- if u have pericing hide it . of only wear studs to school

OMG yes! My school dress code is possibly the worst thing about school. My school has so many rules but the dress code is way to out of control. I mean they don't even let us wear jackets.....and if they do it has to be a certain color and a certain material. Its so annoying. I hate it! And another thing is we have to wear dark shoes, they can't be a certain color and we have to wear a belt and tuck-in our shirts. YES!!! you have to wear shirts that have sleeves that are as wide as three or four fingers and when it comes to skirts and shorts they have to go past your fingertips when your arms go down. Every morning you have to raise your arms in the air and make sure your stomach doesnt show. If anything is against dress code you have to go to the office and wear brown ugly sweat pants and and a ugly shirt. Your not even allowed to wear speghetti straps. YES!!! you have to wear shirts that have sleeves that are as wide as three or four fingers and when it comes to skirts and shorts they have to go past your fingertips when your arms go down. Every morning you have to raise your arms in the air and make sure your stomach doesnt show. If anything is against dress code you have to go to the office and wear brown ugly sweat pants and and a ugly shirt. Your not even allowed to wear speghetti straps. I believe that in some cases, dress codes are nessesary, but they shouldn't be took overboard. For example, at my school, you get in trouble for wearing the wrong color belt.

OMG! Where do I start? Okay, so no-one can wear jewellary. You get told off if you don't have your tie on or if it isn't "just right". The boys are always being nagged about tucking their shirts in when it is muh more comfortable with them hanging out. Skirts can't be any shorter than knee-length and shoes must be black or brown and can't be dirty. Also, you get a detention if you are caught in trainers in any lesson except P.E.

I do not like my dress code. I could only wear Navy Blue, Khaki, and White.

my old school had a strict dress code. we had to wear a solid color shirt and tuck it in with a belt. we have to have our shorts\skirts fingertip lenghth. we also had to wear sneakers no sandals or anything. i hated it!

i hate that we can't were tank tops. i mean it gets so hot

my school elementry has to where white shirts with school logo and navy pants, middle school navy shirts and beige pants and ankle plaid skirts so unfair! we have to have white or black shoes and white socks if you don't follow ur parents get called! only one small necklace and no cligging earings!

I dont really mind the dress code. I do hate that little kids can wear whatever they want but once u get past like grade 3 or somethin, you have to follow the dress code. I dont mind straps as much cuz my fingers are thin and its a two finger rule :). No one follows the shorts rule tho :)

i like our dress code cuz i go to a public skool and we can wear anything but mini mini skirts but ppl always do it anyways and it doesnt matter cuz we dont have to change out of it

Well, in my city, we have to wear uniforms through grade school to middle school, but certain high schools don't have a dress code, only one more year! :)

Our dress code isn't really that strict. We have to wear green or gold polo shirts & khaki pants which i'm fine with but, I just wish we could have like a casual Friday or something so I could wear the things I like. (i.e) Jeans & t-shirt, it makes me more comfortable. We can't wear any open toed shoes, slippers, fur, hooded shirts or coats & if we decide to wear khaki shorts they have to be at the knees, even for the girls. If we break the dress code we get detention after school, i've had many detentions for that reason. :]

we have a uniform... so yes. =p everything, even down to the color of our ponytails, is strict. i dislike it veryyy much.

I HATE my school dress code!! I go to a catholic school so I have to wear a uniform. Our school colors are maroon and gold. For the winter uniform you have to wear a white shirt with a maroon sweater vest with a khaki skirt with khaki knee and brown shoes highs and for summer uniform you wear either a white or maroon polo with khaki shorts that got above the knee and white socks and brown shoes. We rarely have dress down days!! You can't wear nail polish, you can only wear stud earrings, and you can't wear any necklaces, or bracelets!! (this is sooo long sorry)

I like my school uniform. i live in australia. so i didnt noe in america u had to wear a uniform. mine is NAvy blue and white. our scirts are really cool. some people wear it short. i like the colours but when its wet the white tees cause a bit of a problem for us girls...lol
