Remembering Brittany Murphy

Hi J-14ers!

"When I was 14..." (ha!) I took a world history class and my teacher was ALWAYS bragging about how he taught actress Brittany Murphy back in her hometown of Edison, NJ. He always told us that she was super bubbly and a smile never left her face. It's one of those stores that I will never forget from high school... Yesterday when I got the news that Brittany passed away at age 32, I instantly had a flashback to the days of my teacher going on and on and on about what a great girl she is.

When Brittany was 14, she got her first acting gig in the TV show Blossom. She later went to film one of my all-time favorite movies, Clueless. I can recited that movie line-for-line -- seriously, just quiz me! I remember seeing that in the theater with my best friend and her friends who were all a year older than me. I didn't know the friends very well, but I didn't care -- I was seeing the coolest movie ever with the most popular girls from school. That's just like Brittany's character, Tai -- for most of the movie, all she cared about was being popular. But by then end, she knew that staying true to herself was most important. I related to Brittany on that level.

I could go on and on about how huge of a fan I am of Brittany's movies: Uptown Girl (with Dakota Fanning!), 8 Mile, Girl, Interrupted, Little Black Book, Just Married (with her ex-BF Ashton Kutcher), Sin City, just to name a few! And to think, all these awesome flicks were made by a girl from Jersey, just like me!

I can't do what a tragedy this is any justice... I think Ashton Kutcher put it best when he tweeted after the hearing the news, "2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine."

RIP Brittany Murphy

What's your favorite Brittany Murphy movie?
