MTV's My Life As Liz's finale airs Monday, March 8, at 10:30 p.m., but we've got the scoop straight from Liz Lee before then! Liz chatted with J-14 about the last episode, her relationships with Sully and Bryson, and her crazy connection to the Jersey Shore!
J-14: How did you get involved with MTV?
Liz Lee: MTV was looking for a spin-off for their show The Paper. Some girl in my broadcast journalism class was looking through a forum and saw that they were looking for someone. There were questions that you could answer on camera. I walked in to class and she was like, "Come to this room with me and answer these questions on camera -- it's not a big deal." We didn't think anything of it because there are all these kids in interesting places in the U.S. -- why are they going to choose this small Texas town? Then they called us back and did a casting and the show morphed in to My Life As Liz.
J-14: Can you give us a hint as to what we'll see in the finale?
Liz: Lots of twists and turns. The last episode had a few of those -- things got complicated with Sully having a crush on me, then me having a crush on Bryson, and me not really realizing that Sully had a crush on me. Bryson said no, and I chose Sully. I kind of tugged at Sully's heart strings by accident. [The finale] basically catches you off guard. But overall Sully and I are still good friends. I can't really say what happens with Bryson and I or Sully and I because it might give it away, but Troy and I are still really close. I'm still really close with all of them -- you've got to watch the episode to find out in which way. I frequently video chat with them. I miss them terribly.
J-14: Are you hoping to film a second season?
Liz: Yeah, definitely. There might be a season two, there might not be. There's a lot of factors that go in to it, mainly how many people watch. I feel like I've gained a second family. I think everybody wants their story to be told, and it's really great. When I was in high school, if I would have been able to see that other people were going through the same sort of trials and tribulations as I was, it would have been easier to deal with it too. Getting older and maturing, I realize that [drama] happens all the time to kids everywhere. Maybe I can help those kids out by showing them that you can come out on top and everything's going to be okay.
J-14: How true is the show to how your senior year really was?
Liz: It's very, very true to how I really was, how things really were, and how my life was. It's pretty accurate. I feel like I'm often really negative on the show -- I'm kind of cynical -- but the thing is, it's actually so accurate that I can't really think of anything that they don't really show! The show is very honest. It doesn't sugarcoat -- they don't hide the fact that my face got smacked in to these metal lockers one day. They don't show just the happy, pretty things of being a nerd and the fun stuff that you share with your friends -- they also show you getting treated like crap by the popular kids and getting talked down to by the jocks because you don't have washboard abs like [Jersey Shore's] The Situation.
J-14: You tweeted back and forth with Jersey Shore's Snooki a couple of times -- have you become friends with any other MTV stars?
Liz: [laughs] I don't go to clubs with her and fist pump my way to house music! We both work for MTV and see each other at engagements. She's actually a really sweet girl. I'm not going to go around clubbing with her, but she was very nice to me, so I'm going to be cordial and polite to her because she did the same for me. But it's so weird having someone like Pauly D quoting the show. He texted me and said something like, "This is my life, as Liz." He posted a tweet about being at his hotel, relaxing and watching My Life As Liz, and I was like, "Oh my god, this is crazy." You're like, "What? A month ago I was quoting you!" I think everybody needs to just admit to the fact that they do love Jersey Shore. It's called a guilty pleasure -- everyone has one. You should admit to it!
