J-14 is scouting out the hottest music around... and this week's pick is Chase Coy!
Here are five things you need to know about Chase Coy, whose major label debut album, Picturesque, drops June 1.
1. The Greenwood, IN-native learned how to play the guitar at age ten and began writing tunes when he was 16 -- he even started recording them in his parents' basement! "Music was just was what I did," Chase tells J-14. "About a year ago, my plan was that I was going to go to college for music and I was going to be doing my music on the side the whole time, but I always considered it equal to actual school. There are things you do in life that you have a passion for that you can't not do - that's music for me."
2. Chase will hit the road with singer Brendan James starting June 1 in Hoboken, NJ. Their tour wraps up in St. Louis on June 27.
3. The singer says all of the songs on his album are deeply personal to him. "I would have to say that at any given time, a certain song may resonate more with me than the others for whatever reason, and at the moment that song is "Anniversary," Chase explains. "I'm coming up on my two year anniversary with my girlfriend in July, so it's interesting to look back at a song I wrote for our one year anniversary and think about how things have changed -- but lots of things are really similar."
4. A fellow songwriter joined Chase on Picturesque -- Colbie Caillat duets with him on the tune "If The Moon Fell Down." "Working with Colbie was amazing," Chase tells J-14. "She is both a super-talented artist and just an all-around nice person. She was great to work with in the studio, and she's really someone I look up to for staying so grounded and down-to-earth despite all her success."
5. When he's traveling on the road, Chase likes to bring something to remind him of home, like a stuffed animal that holds a ton of meaning to him and his GF. "I accidentally left it at a hotel on my last tour, so I'll probably be looking for something new to take with me -- I couldn't stand losing it again!" he admits.
