J-14 is scouting out the hottest bands around... and this week's pick is Disco Curtis.
Here are five things you need to know about Disco Curtis, whose album, Play With Fire Get Burned, is out now!
1. The Dallas, Texas-based band came together after a few other junior high and high school bands had failed. "Since a young age, we have all been drawn to music," singer Tanner Howe tells J-14. They wound up naming themselves Disco Curtis after a drummer and dancer named Curtis who performed in the '70s.
2. Their single, "Ashley," is about a girl Tanner used to date. "After the relationship died, I wrote a song," he explains. "I couldn't get over her at the time -- she seemed so right, but I was wrong. So wrong!"
3. Disco Curtis will hit the road as part of the 2010 Vans Warped Tour on July 10 in Colleyville, TX (their home state!). They wrap up in Hillsboro, OR, on August 15 and will play a few shows in Texas after that. In addition to touring, the guys are working on their upcoming second album.
4. One of Disco Curtis' fave memories as a band was playing with Boys Like Girls. "[Singer] Martin [Johnson] shared a few wise words with me, but I think he'd want me to keep it a secret between us," Tanner says. "We didn't get a change to play any pranks [either] -- we weren't that clever. Next time!"
5. Tanner says the one thing he has to have with him on the road is his iPhone. "There is no better reminder of home than talking directly to the people who make home such a comforting place," he explains.
