J-14 is scouting out the hottest music around... and this week's pick is Jackson Harris.
Here are five things you need to know about Jackson Harris, whose album Long Story Short will drop in October!
1. Jackson Harris began singing when he was nine, but it was a 6th grade school musical that really made him take singing seriously. "I was cast as Frank Sinatra, so it was definitely a stretch to play him at 11!" Jackson tells J-14.
2. His single "Long Story Short" was written after taking a few courses in college. "I very quickly learned that school is an amazing place, but I wasn't being taught the things I really wanted to learn about," he explains. "So that song talks about me taking the road less traveled and not paying so much attention to what was expected of me but to do what I really wanted to do with my life."
3. New York native Jackson did a cover of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' "Empire State of Mind." "I think it's the official anthem of New York at this time," Jackson tells us. "I was at the World Series game last year, and I'm an avid Yankee fan, and to be there in the first place was amazing. But then to see Jay-Z and Alicia Keys come out and sing this song, and [Yankees players] Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter getting into it, you feel like a New Yorker even if you're not from here."
4. Jackson grew up on New York City's Upper East Side, but he wants to dispel any rumors about the neighborhood. "The Gossip Girl perception is definitely there, that crazy part of money, but it's not rooted the rude ways that it's shown," he says. "I was lucky enough meet some great people and be a part of some great charity work and organizations there -- it's really no different than any other town to me."
5. Jackson is crushing on a fellow singer -- Taylor Swift! "She's a beautiful girl who is an incredibly great actress -- her Saturday Night Live stuff was just hilarious," he admits.
