J-14 Star Watch: Nikki Yanofsky

Hi J-14ers!

I was so excited when I heard that a bunch of Canadian musicians were banding together for a music video to help Haiti back in March... and it was so cool to see who popped up in the video for Young Artists for Haiti's "Wavin' Flag.". After all, some of my favorite musicians and bands are Canadian -- Simple Plan, Sum 41, Hedley, Marianas Trench, Avril Lavigne, Drake, and of course, Justin Bieber.

But the singer who really caught my attention was a young Canadian girl I didn't know... Nikki Yanofsky. She totally steals the video from all these big names with her amazingly powerful vocals during the dramatic bridge of the song.

So I was anxious to find out more about her right away. Turns out she looked familiar because she was the girl who wowed the world with her performance at the Winter Olympics' opening ceremony earlier this year. At only 16, she released her debut album in May to incredible reviews and a number one spot on the Billboard Heatseeker chart.

But the coolest thing about Nikki? Even though she's an amazing vocalist having performed for a billion (yes, billion!) people during the Olympics, she's just like you and me... a huge Twilight fan. "I have a huge crush on Rob Pattinson," she says. But her current dilemma du jour? Whether to side with Team Rob or Team Taylor after seeing The Twilight Saga: Eclipse... we know how you feel, Nikki!
