Disney starlet Selena Gomez makes her feature film debut today in the movie Ramona and Beezus. J-14 caught up with the teen queen and talked about everything from her favorite scene from the movie to why she chose the role. She even revealed a secret about a hilarious moment on camera!
J-14: Why did you pick this movie to act in?
Selena: I picked it because this is my first feature film. It is my first movie in theaters. I wanted to make sure that you and your mom and your brother and everyone can come see it. I wanted it to be a challenge for me, also. It is very different from Alex on Wizards of Waverly Place. I wanted to make sure you could all go see it and laugh and have a good time.
J-14: What makes this special from all of your other television and movie roles?
Selena: I was extremely nervous and the director helped me figure out exactly how I was going to portray my character. This is actually Joey's first lead so I was really excited to experience it together. I think it makes it special and different because it is unlike anything that I've done before and it doesn't have Disney Channel on it.
J-14: Were you like Ramona when you were younger?
Selena: I was very much like Ramona growing up. The world was my stage and I was very dramatic. I lived in my own little world. Anybody can pick this book up because it is really comforting and I think everybody can relate to it, no matter how old you are.
J-14: What is your favorite scene?
Selena: My favorite scene would have to be the bedroom scene. It is the scene where Beezus, my character, invites Ramona to come sleep with her because she doesn't want to be alone. It is really a nice moment between two sisters because they actually connect. All the pestering and picking on each other kind of stops and you see a nice side of them. I thought that was really sweet.
J-14: Did you really have to drink the bug in the lemonade scene?
Selena: No. Do you want to know a secret? That was a raisin that they put as a fly. What they did, which took forever because they couldn't get it, was that we had to put air in the raisin through a little needle so it would float like a bug in the lemonade. We couldn't find a raisin that could float! I was like, "Let me chug it. I'll get the thing down, I promise."
