J-14 caught up with Emma Watson to talk about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, Part 1, what it was like wrapping up the last Harry Potter films, and a final cast party she threw!
J-14: In Deathly Hallows, what do you think being on the run does to Hermione, Ron, and Harry's friendship? Did you use your own real life experiences with friends or difficult situations to act?
Emma Watson: Gosh. Well, I definitely think the kind of pressure that the three of them are under, being on the run and the fear and the anxiety definitely has an effect on their friendship. Ron particularly becomes very irritable and Harry and Ron end up having a big fight. So Hermione is trying to keep everyone calm and keep everyone together. Hermione is pretty crucial in all of that. But no, it definitely takes a role on their friendship. And then to answer the second part of your question, yeah I definitely use my life experience, my experience with friends and friendships to use in my acting. Definitely, definitely. I see my Dan -- or Harry, when I'm acting with Harry, he's my younger brother, Alex. He's 17 but he's still like -- Hermione has sisterly or maternal relationship with Harry. So yeah definitely, I definitely use my real life.
J-14: Did you take anything from the set?
Emma: I took my wand and I took my time turne. I took a cloak. That's about it really.
J-14: How would you describe Daniel and Rupert from when you first met them and now, at the end?
Emma: Well it's funny because it started out as Dan and I were the shy ones and Rupert was the talkative one. Then we seemed to like, swap. Rupert hardly speaks. You are lucky if you get anything out of him these days. Then Dan and I do a lot more of the talking. So that is kind of interesting that we've swapped. Dan is really intelligent and very sweet and Rupert just has a wicked sense of humor. He's very like eccentric and very unique in the way that he does things. He's like a big kid. I feel like he'll never grow up which I love too.
J-14: What was it like on that last day of filming? What was going through your mind?
Emma: I sort of think, "Oh my goodness. I can't believe this is it. Oh my god. I can't believe this day has finally come." You know? Because I thought it would never -- I thought it would never end. I thought it would never be over. It just felt, I don't know, really strange. I kind of had to pinch myself and you know. So it was pretty weird.
J-14: Tell us about the cast party you threw.
Emma: I threw a dinner at my new apartment in London. I don't know, I just tried to make it look really nice. I bought tons of flowers. I had candles everywhere. Everyone had place settings and I made food for everyone to come and eat. And also I made a book for everyone. Like I had silly questions like, "Who was your first crush on set?" and "What was your best memory? What was your worst memory? Your favorite director?" All stuff like that is just really fun. It was nice that everyone had a piece of paper to write it all down on but we all like discussed our answers and went around and listened to people's stories and what they remembered. Just kind of, just like a really nostalgic evening basically. All of us sharing stories and how they remembered things. Yeah, it was just a really nice evening and it was warm weather so we sat outside as well. I bought disposable cameras for the table so everyone could use those. It was just fun. It was just chill.
