On Saturday, January 8, 22-year-old Jared Lee Loughner used a semi-automatic gun to open-fire on a political meeting outside a grocery store in Tucson, AZ. After shooting Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in the head, he turned the gun on the crowd, wounding 14 people and killing another six.
While Congresswoman Giffords survived and is currently in critical condition, nine-year-old Christina Taylor Green (pictured above) was tragically killed at the scene.
A third-grader born on September 11, 2001, Christina loved playing her new guitar, dancing ballet, and curling her hair like Taylor Swift's. Christina was a member of her school's student council and attended the event with Congresswoman Giffords to learn more about government.
Senseless shootings at schools and other public places have received increasing attention in the past few years and brought gun-control and media violence discussions to the forefront.
What was your reaction to hearing about the Tucson shootings? What do you think should be done to prevent tragedies like this from happening in the future?
