Jake T. Austin is lending his voice in the movie Rio, about a bird named Blu and his adventure to Brazil. We got to chat with Jake about the movie and he even gave us some tips on playing the addictive app, Angry Birds! Rio comes out April 15.
J-14: Tell us about your character Fernando.
Jake T. Austin: In the beginning, he's stealing birds and working against Blu and all the rest of the animals, but towards the end of the story he realizes what he's doing. He becomes such good friends with the animals that he decides to turn good.
J-14: What is the process for doing voiceovers?
Jake: A lot of visualization. You're in front of a microphone so you're isolated away from being on set. It's just you and the director. You can show up in your pajamas. It's a more relaxed environment.
J-14: Is the voice of Fernando your real voice or did you tweak it to fit the character?
Jake: I had to throw in a Brazilian accent just to get the character right. There's a little bit of a Portuguese infliction, but it's not too thick.
J-14: How long ago did you actually record for this movie?
Jake: I recorded four times over the course of the last year and a half -- like really random times.
J-14: There's a Rio version of Angry Birds. Do you have any tips on how to play?
Jake: Yeah! I actually love Angry Birds! I got it on my phone. It's one of the most addicting games. [You have to] keep your attention on shooting the birds. It's one of those games where you have to be completely concentrated.
