J-14 Editor Blog: Interviewing Cobra Starship in Times Square

Hey J-14ers!

I'm Lillian, one of the interns here at the magazine! Recently, I was lucky enough to meet and interview Cobra Starship at the Hard Rock Café in Times Square! The band was there for an event to promote Stride's new gum, Stride Shift. It changes flavors as you chew! (And it's totally delish!)

While waiting to interview the band, I was really nervous. This was my first time interviewing celebrities in person, and all the boys were really cute! All of the professional photographers were really intimidating, but by the time it was my turn, and I introduced myself to the band, all my nerves had gone away. Gabe Saporta even offered me his giant wad of chewed gum -- he had chewed an entire pack just moments before!

The band was hilarious, especially Gabe and guitarist Ryland Blackinton! They were all so sweet and we had a lot of fun. We joked about Rebecca Black's song "Friday," and I suggested they do a cover, even though the event was on a Monday.

They also dished on their new album! One is definitely in the works and they are hoping to release it in the summer, but they haven't quite decided on what it's going to sound like. Drummer Nate Novarro even told me that his favorite song to sing karaoke do was Justin Bieber's "Baby" so maybe there will be a collab in the future!

After the interviews, the Hard Rock Café served all of the press and Stride contest winners a delicious lunch before Cobra Starship came back out to perform a full concert! This was actually the second time I had seen the band live, but there's nothing better than a concert on a rainy Monday afternoon! They did all their hit songs, like "Hot Mess," "Good Girls Go Bad," and my favorite, "Guilty Pleasure." Gabe had great energy and kept the crowd dancing, even though it was only one o'clock. I left the event happy -- and with a purse full of free gum!

What do you think about Cobra Starship? Are you excited for their new album?

xoxo,
Lillian, J-14 intern
