Lauren Dair Owens has been on the set of So Random! the same time as Selena Gomez, she's good pals with Sterling Knight and his family, and she stars on the new FOX show New Girl. Now she dishes to only J-14 Magazine about it all!
J-14: What is it like on the set of the TV show New Girl with Zooey Deschanel?
Lauren: My role on New Girl is Young Jess/Young Zooey Deschanel -- I love working with Zooey! When I got the audition I was so excited! When my agent called and told me I got the part, I screamed! The first time I met Zooey, I couldn't believe it was really her. I had just filmed the first episode and I was about to leave, but I really wanted to meet her. I was looking everywhere for her and couldn't find her. When I was walking back to my trailer, someone behind me said "Lauren! Your scene was so funny. You are so funny and pretty!" When I turned around, I saw it was Zooey. I wanted to die! Having someone who is such amazing actress tell me I was funny and pretty made me feel so special.
J-14: You're also a singer -- what was it like the first time you recorded a song?
Lauren: I was 9 years old -- I had no idea what I was doing! The songs I did then were just for fun. I started working on my CD No Apologies about a year ago in August. The thing that surprised me was that you normally record a song in about an hour or two. It doesn't take a super long time to record.
J-14: What is your favorite song that you've recorded?
Lauren: I don't really have a favorite -- I love them all! But I think that my song "Stereotype" relates to many teen girls because it's about not being perfect and being who you are. I feel like that is what most of my songs mean. My songs are all about being different and not caring about being like everyone else. I think every girl worries about being perfect and I want them to know that they are perfect the way they are.
J-14: You were recently on the So Random! set when Selena Gomez was. What was that like?
Lauren: I was in the audience, but I did get to sing on stage to warm the crowd up and everyone got to hear me. I get to go to the show a lot because I am really good friends with Sterling Knight's family. I was at the episode that Selena Gomez was on. I did not get to meet her then, but I met her when I was younger at a summer camp. She was a guest speaker and if you signed up early enough for the camp, you go to have breakfast with the star that came. In earlier years, I met Ashley Tisdale and Jason Earles. That year the speakers were Selena and Kyle Massey. I got to have breakfast with both of them. Selena was so sweet and amazing. I loved talking to her! I think she is amazing because not only has she had a successful acting career but also a successful music career.
J-14: How did you become friends with Sterling Knight's family?
Lauren: Sterling has a little sister who is my age and she lived at my apartment complex in Los Angeles. We became really good friends and we still are really close. I met her about a year before he got Sonny with a Chance. They are such a nice family and they even came up to Girdwood, Alaska (my hometown) and stayed with us for a week. I have even gone to their home in Texas. Something people may not know about Sterling is back in Texas where they are from, they have 14 horses!
