Scotty McCreery's debut album Clear As Day made history for the American Idol star -- Scotty became the youngest male to ever debut at top of All-Genre chart with his first album. J-14 chatted with Scotty about his album, experience on American Idol, and most embarrassing moment. Check out the interview below:
J-14: Did you feel nervous at all throughout the American Idol audition process?
Scotty McCreery: Oh yeah! Even toward the end of the show, the nerves always hit you. For me it's right before I get on stage, but once I hit the stage and I'm out there in my zone it kind of settles down.
J-14: Are there any songs on your album Clear As Day that came from personal experience?
Scotty: I don't think so. You won't hear anything too personal like that. None of the things that I wrote got on the album, so they're all outside songs but they're all songs that relate to me and songs that feel like they were written for me. I don't know about any break up songs or nothing on this album!
J-14: What were you like in school growing up?
Scotty: I was always in chorus, but my main thing in school was being a part of the baseball team. I was a pitcher for three years and it's looking like I'm back this year to pitch some games. I had two loves growing up which were baseball and singing. Luckily I get to do singing for a career but I don't want to forget about baseball yet so I'll still be around to pitch some.
J-14: Has there ever been anything you've had to overcome to get to where you are?
Scotty: I'm actually a shy guy. A lot of people wouldn't realize that but if you know me personally, I'm not very outgoing. When I get on stage, I run around and act all wild and stuff, but if I'm just laying low and being back home I'm pretty shy. And also, the confidence thing. You always have to give yourself a chance. Before Idol, I'd sing in coffee shops and stuff but I didn't really give myself a chance really outside of that. Idol was a real confidence booster and now I can go out and sing in front of anybody, but I definitely had to get over that part of it.
J-14: What has been your most embarrassing moment so far?
Scotty: On the American Idol tour, I was on stage and really getting into my last song "Gone" and I started messing around with my mic and it flew out of my hand and into the stands. One of the guys who worked on the tour had to run and get it and it was a big ordeal. Once I finally got it back it was kind of embarrassing you know like, "The newbie's dropping his mic already."
