J-14 is scouting out the hottest bands around... and this week's pick is My Girl Friday!
Here are five things you need to know about My Girl Friday whose upcoming album American Kids is due to be released by the end of the year.
1. Hailing from Phoenix, AZ, pop-rock band My Girl Friday consists of vocalist Justin Godsey, guitarists Logan Thayer and Tyler Horton, bassist Ryan Steele, and drummer Vic Chan. Coming from the Arizona music scene, they have the support from good friends The Summer Set (whom they just finished a tour with) and The Maine.
2. Their band named was inspired by the 40's movie His Girl Friday and also The Academy Is...'s song "His Girl Friday."
3. Each band member has a diverse taste in music, which leads to a unique sound but some common musical inspirations. "I'd say we all can agree that we love artists like John Mayer, Keith Urban, Blink-182, and Ryan Adams," Logan says.
4. If they could tour with anyone dead or alive, Justin would love to hit the road with country artists Kenny Chesney or Eric Church.
5. With a few EPs under My Girl Friday's belt, they're currently gearing up for the release of their next album American Kids. How does it compare to their past stuff? "It's a lot different and I really hope people like it," Justin says. "I'm more proud of this one than any other one before it."
