Payton Rae caused quite a stir in the music industry by posting her videos to YouTube. In fact, her music video for single "Not Your Cinderella" has over 500 000 views! Now, aside from taking the country music world by storm, Payton is also a huge supporter of the STOMP Out Bullying campaign, raising awareness and encouraging teen girls to stand up for themselves against harassment. Recently, the 16-year-old country singer took time out of her hectic schedule to visit J-14, where she spilled all about how she got her start in the music industry, the real meaning behind her single "Dare to Live," and even admits some of her quirkiest habits!
J-14: How did you get your start in the music industry?
Payton Rae: When I was four years old, I realized that singing was what I loved to do. In 2006, I started uploading videos to YouTube and that's how I really got started.
J-14: How would you describe your sound in three words?
Payton: I would say contemporary, pop-country, and kind of tough girl.
J-14: One of your singles is entitled "Dare to Live." Is there a certain moment in your life where you really lived those words?
Payton: When I first heard that song, it really touched my heart. There are so many girls that want to chase their dreams but are scared to, and this song is encouraging them to go out there, live your dreams, and have the courage to do it.
J-14: What is your most embarrassing moment?
Payton: I was on a first date with a guy and we went bowling. I have chubby fingers so when I started to bowl I got my fingers stuck in the bowling ball! It took awhile to get them out -- but there was a second date!
J-14: What would people be surprised to learn about you?
Payton: I have to drink pickle juice pretty much everyday. I don't feel complete if I don't -- I just love it!
