J-14 Flick Pick: Mirror, Mirror

Mirror, Mirror, in theaters this weekend, may be based on the classic story of Snow White, but this retelling is so much more than a simple fairy tale.

When the film begins, Snow White (Lily Collins) is a pitiful girl forced to stay locked in the castle by her stepmother, the Evil Queen (Julia Roberts). But it doesn't take long before she becomes a kick-butt heroine who ventures out into the dangerous woods, befriends a group of dwarf bandits, and falls in love with Prince Alcott (The Social Network's Armie Hammer).

Julia Roberts is creepily perfect as The Evil Queen, but it's Lily Collins who completely steals the show. Lily was great in The Blind Side and Abduction, and now she truly shines as Snow White. I can't imagine a better choice to play the winsome yet tough princess.

The film is filled with breathtaking scenery and gorgeous costumes (I love Snow White's entire wardrobe!). From first kisses to showdowns with the forest beast, Mirror, Mirror is a nonstop journey of laughs and suspense. It just might be the fairest tale of them all.
