Here are five things you need to know about For The Foxes whose debut EP The Revolution is out tomorrow!
1. Lead singer Nick Dungo formed For The Foxes with fellow New Jersey natives back in 2007. After a couple of lineup changes through the years, the solid group now consists of Nick, guitarists Jimmy Brindley and Mikey Ballou, drummer Danny Vassallo, and bassist Jonathan Brunner. Nick was studying music at William Paterson University and writing for the group when he decided it was time to take matters into his own hands. Writing emails to music venues and promoters throughout the area, the pop-rock group embarked on their first East Coast tour.
2. For The Foxes was inspired by Nick's Charles Bukowski poetry readings during his first year in college. "A lot of people assume the band name means 'for the girls' and in the beginning we thought 'Okay, cool, it goes both ways,' but it's actually about the poem we were reading," Nick tells J-14. "It's about just being content with your life and moving forward. Things like that."
3. Taking a year to develop their sound, they recorded their first debut EP The Revolution in Atlanta. "It took us a year to find out what we'd really be happy with listening to in five or 10 years and say, 'I'm really proud of this'," Nick says about their diverse sound, taking influences from the Smashing Pumpkins, The Strokes, Elton John, and 80's pop. "I think it comes together as fun pop-rock music."
4. From fun rock tunes to a vocally-driven ballad, For The Foxes' EP has something for every music lover. "We kind of wanted to just have fun with this record. There's a lot of different stuff going on," Nick tells J-14. "We've done a lot of recording and writing and everything that's involved in the whole being a musician in a band process but I am the most proud of this record." Danny adds.
5. The title track, "The Revolution," is the first single off the EP, which is a story about an ex-girlfriend of Nick's. "It's basically just about me growing up and learning more about myself and my own personal revolution," Nick says. "It kind of takes on an anthem-type vibe."
