Hey J-14ers!
I'll admit, I'm a 21-year-old girl who loves Pixar animated movies. After growing up with my pals, Woody and Buzz from 'Toy Story', and the beloved automobile gang from 'Cars' to say that I was excited to see Brave, the 13th Pixar installment, was a serious understatement. When I first heard about Merida, the fierce, strong-willed, red-headed girl who was a pro at shooting a bow and arrow, I knew I had to see it!
Now I don't want to give too much away, but hey, it can't hurt to learn a little about the movie before you decide to see it yourself (which...you totally should!) From the very beginning we are shown the importance of family bonds. However, that bond gets tested when Merida's mom, Queen Elinor, tells her that she needs to choose a prince to marry. Merida who has always been one to be brave and strong, has another path in mind for herself. So, Merida decides to take control of her future and change her fate. Different characters come into play and ultimately, these new relationships lead Merida to a very difficult decision!
Every good movie should have a message, and this one's is clear and touching. We are shown the importance of family, especially the oh-so-special mother-daughter bond. And since I'm a total sap for these touching, tender moments, I'll admit it: I left the theater wanting to call my mom and tell her how much I love her. (Which I totally did, by the way.)
I was also a fan for what the wild, crazy, freckle-faced Merida stood for. She couldn't care less about wearing dresses and all the pomp of being a princess. She was proud of what made her different -- and she knew that she was beautiful no matter what.
But before I babble on even more about how much I loved this movie, I think it's time to hand it over to you. To keep in the spirit of the film, I ask you this question...
Have you ever gone against your mother's wishes? What happened? How did you guys re-connect like Merida and Queen Elinor did?
Can't wait to hear from you!
