The secret is out – it's the end of an era for Pretty Little Liars the series, as we know it. While the show's devoted fans are hoping time stops before the finale officially starts tonight at 8 pm on Freeform, we caught up with the show's creator Marlene King and one of the stars, Shay Mitchell.

J-14 chatted exclusively with Marlene about which show the Pretty Little Liars cast is passing the torch onto and what she will miss the most about being on set. Shay spilled the beans about what she's learned since playing the role of Emily Fields and what she will miss about this experience. The finale will undoubtedly be emotional for not only Marlene, Shay and the rest of the cast and crew that worked on it over the years but also for the fans.

Marlene spilled that she and the PLL cast really think Famous In Love will be their replacement. She said, "The Pretty Little Liars were so lovely last night because they literally verbalized to the Famous In Love cast, we’re passing the torch to you now and you’ve got to be good people and you’ve got to be kind people. It was like literally, we became a family because we treated each other like that and it was like now you’re going to be family number 2. So it felt really special."

Aww! With such depressing news about our favorite show ending, this really brings some clarity and light to the situation. Marlene said she also hopes some of the Pretty Little Liars cast makes an appearance on Famous In Love but it may not be in the way you think. Unfortunately, Emily, Spencer, Aria, Hanna and Alison are probably gone forever.

Marlene said, "I hope we get some of the Pretty Little Liars onto Famous In Love and they would play themselves, they wouldn’t play their characters so it would make the world very realistic in that way. That’s my hope that we get a lot of cameos coming forward and people playing their real self."

Last night Marlene posted this photo on Instagram with the caption, "This was the most difficult scene to write/shoot in the finale. We are one sleep away from the end. #PLLfinale #pllmemorylane."

And she wrote this message to the fans on Instagram as well, "Thank you to our worldwide PLL family. We made it for7 years because of you! ❤❤."

We're not crying, you're crying! So what did she tell J-14 that she'll miss about all of this? "Believe it or not, we miss the routine. Shay and I were saying the other night, the days were long but the years were short. It went by so fast and we’re really appreciating the fact that, we’ll all still get to see each other but seeing each other all together is going to be rare and we know that so we’ve really embraced this time."

Can this woman get any cooler?! Speaking of Shay, she revealed what is going to be the toughest not to be around everyday. She said, "My family, my second family! The girls, the cast – all of that. They truly built a second family, and I'm going to miss them. But this isn't the last time I'm going to see them."

And it's clear that she has learned a lot not only from this second family of hers but from this role. She said, "I've learned that the best way to live your life is to truly be honest, be who you are – and live that authentic life. You only get one of them, so don't try to pretend to be anybody you're not."

Looking back to the beginning, before she knew what she was getting herself into and before she learned that honesty really is the best policy, we wanted to know if she would have changed something about her audition process. Her answer? "I wouldn't change anything because you landed the part for a reason – so just do that exact same thing."

SHAY FREAKING SLAYS.
