Fans of Ed Sheeran aren’t exactly too thrilled with just how open and honest the singer was during a recent interview with British GQ, and they’re letting him know just how they feel all over social media.

In the feature, the “Photograph,” singer discussed a variety of topics that ranged from how he believes his career is similar to Taylor Swift’s, to how he feels about those other artists who copy his style and sound.

Ed’s exact words were, “there are a lot of singer-songwriters around now. I’m not the first but there are more than before. I’m very happy for everyone to be in the same race as me, even if they copy every single thing I’ve done.”

"In a 100m sprint to get a No1 album I just know I’m going to win. I don’t care who’s doing what. I just know I’m going to win. I’m going to make sure I come first,” he continued to say.

Ed’s words came off a little too strong to a lot of fans, which prompted the hashtag #EdSheeranIsOverParty to start trending on Twitter. Many were quick to call the singer, “arrogant,” and point out how his latest single, “Shape Of You,” bares a resemblance to Sia’s hit-single, “Cheap Thrills.” It isn't the first time he's been accused of copying another artist's work, he's been sued twice over it.

Though it wasn’t all bad news for Ed either, even with all the negativity, plenty of other fans were quick to jump to the singer’s defense, pointing out that aside from being a good singer, he simply has set for himself he hopes to accomplish.

The “Thinking Out Loud,” singer didn’t stay quite for long either. Eventually he issued his own statement on Twitter regarding the interview and the backlash that read, “Some stuff I've said is being taken out of context, you should never hide your goals or ambitions, be proud of what you do.”

It looks pretty clear to us that Ed is extremely proud of all he’s accomplished and everything else he will surely achieve in the future.
