Jake Gyllenhaal has given one of the most awkward interviews of all time—and of course, it had to do with Taylor Swift. While doing a round of interviews for his movie Life, an unsuspecting reporter for The Guardian* newspaper got the scolding of a lifetime for merely mentioning the singer and the songs that the actor supposedly inspired after their brief relationship.

Since Jake is widely known for being severely private about his personal life, at one point during their conversation the reporter chose to ask him how that privacy worked while dating the "Bad Blood" singer, knowing she is someone who openly shares details of her love life in her music. It was believed that she wrote her mega-hit "We Are Never Getting Back Together" about their relationship.

“I think when you’re in a relationship, you are constantly scrutinized, your friends are scrutinized, but …,” he said, followed by an awkward silence. “I would love to not talk about my personal life.”

When the reporter then asked if he would like to move on from that question he responded saying: “Oh, really? You don’t? I would love to talk about the movie.”

“Art, movies … they’re political whether you’re saying something overtly or not. No wonder it’s dangerous! No wonder, probably, people are trying to defund it! So, it’s an irony to me when people say: ‘An entertainer or actor should not be political,’ because it’s very easy to sideline people and, for instance, ask about past relationships or things that I believe are meant to be private," he said.

He then went on to insinuate that the reporter had never seen his movies before even when they had just discussed his work in detail throughout the interview.

“So, I will just tell you now that I respect your form of questioning but also it is within my belief that in what I do, I will express the most. So I hope, in the future, you will see more of my work. If you’ve ever even seen my work.”

In previous situations, he has been super clear about his desire to keep interviews strictly professional and focused on his work. He has said: “There are some things I keep to myself, that are my business."

“Well, I have a firm belief that I enter space with an open heart and a mind that’s strong enough to protect it. I’m not necessarily guarded, but I consider intimacy to be very important and I don’t think everybody needs to know about my family or my personal details. I’m old school in that way,” he said a different time.

There have been rumors that the ex-couple was rekindling their romance recently and perhaps since he has been spending time with Ryan Reynolds who is somewhat connected to Taylor's squad, perhaps he is so sensitive about this topic because something is happening between them? Maybe, but Swifties will never know until they confirm it themselves.

So lesson learned for anyone who interviews the actor in the future, please no Taylor Swift questions, or at least save them for the end.
