Amazon‘s newest original special in the American Girl line is all about gymnastics and who better to learn from than Olympic Gold Medalist Laurie Hernandez!?
American Girl Story – Ivy & Julie 1976: A Happy Balance follows the story of Ivy Ling (Nina Lu), a Chinese-American gymnast who struggles to find a balance between her two cultural identities and wants to be more like her all-American best friend, Julie Albright, played by Hannah Nordberg.
Laurie Hernandez stopped by the Los Angeles School of Gymnastics and taught Nina and Hannah a couple gymnastic moves and J-14 was there for all of it. Laurie also showed us a few of her own tricks and we were so impressed!
Nina also revealed that her favorite behind-the-scenes moment to us. She said, “We had to use these giant old fashion phones with long cords, and in one scene the cord got stuck and I started walking and it yanked me back. It was hilarious!”
It sounds like the cast had so much fun filming the special and we cannot wait to watch.
