When Bella Thorne's Jersey EP dropped last fall, it was kind of a crushing blow to Bellarinas who were hoping for her debut full-length album. But now the singer is opening up about the real reason it never dropped — she says she had no intention of becoming a singer, and wasn't happy with the "auto-tuned bad music" she had in the works.

"The reason why the album did not come out is because… look, I never wanted to really be an amazing singer. Honestly, I was tone deaf when I first got on the [Disney] Channel. I literally auditioned for Shake It Up! and I was like, 'I don't sing and I don't dance. I have no idea why I'm here'," she said.

"Then Disney, we started this whole singing process and I signed this contract with Hollywood Records and I told them I wouldn't put out my album until my voice was good, until I worked on it, because there's no way I'm putting out…auto-tuned bad music. My father always told me, if you're going to do something, you better not do it [if you don't do it well]. You have to be the best at what you do."

When she recorded her album, she decided that it just wasn't good enough to release. They cut most of the songs from the album, and just ended up turning it into an EP.

"And so it took a while for my album to come out because my voice was not good enough when I was on the show and I was like, 'There's no way I'm putting it out yet' so it ended up coming out later and by the time that I was off the show, my voice from the songs I had already done, I was so much younger, these songs they're like two years old."

"I asked if I could re-record them and they were like, 'No [because] we don't have the budget for that' and so I ended up cutting eight/nine songs from the album and turned it into an EP…"

Since she's such a perfectionist, that totally makes sense! But it sounds like she made the right decision — Jersey is a pretty strong debut.
