Update 1/28/2017: John Hurt has lost his battle with pancreatic cancer and has died at age 77. His agent, confirmed his death to the Press Association on January 28.
An actor from the Harry Potter movies has just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. John Hurt, who played the magical wand-maker Ollivander, announced the news, saying that he still plans to act through his treatment.

"I have recently been diagnosed with early stage pancreatic cancer. I am undergoing treatment and am more than optimistic about a satisfactory outcome, as indeed is the medical team," he said in a statement from Britain's Press Association.
We're glad he's still in good spirits! As Ollivander, John was such an essential part of our childhood, appearing in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and the two Deathly Hallows movies.
It seems like he's remaining upbeat about his diagnosis. We'll definitely be thinking about him!
