This is just awful.
After Ariana Grande's concert in Manchester, a suicide bomber detonated a bomb killing himself and 22 other concertgoers. Dozens more were injured. Since that nightmare, several people have been arrested in connection with the attacks. It is now being reported that a teenager – a 19-year-old boy – has also been taken into custody.
A new statement read, "A man has been arrested in connection with the investigation into the attack at Manchester Arena. A 19-year-old man was arrested at Liverpool John Lennon Airport on Friday 7 July 2017. He was arrested on suspicion of offences contrary to the Terrorism Act and remains in custody. A property on Thelwall Avenue in Fallowfield is being searched as part of the investigation. As it stands 23 people have now been arrested in connection with this investigation, of which two were quickly de-arrested, and 20 were released without charge. One person remains in custody."
The fact that he is 19 years old really struck a chord with us, and we have so many feelings. He is around the same age as some of the people who lost their lives. While, of course, he has not been charged, so we can't say for sure that this teen had something or anything to do with the attacks, his age is all-around alarming.
Someone so young targeting others that are so young as well is heartbreaking. The strategic thoughts of hate and the actual act of violence that took place after Ariana's Dangerous Woman tour stop in Manchester was unthinkable. As more and more details come out about what really went into planning the attacks, it makes the whole thing even worse.
Ariana put her tour on hold after the attacks and held the One Love Manchester benefit concert that raised millions of dollars for the victims. Now, she's back on the road. There's been reports that another young man made threats to her concert in Costa Rica over the weekend. He has been taken into custody as well.
Inflicting violence upon others at any age is terrible and the fact that a teen now may have had something to do with the Manchester attacks is sickening. Here's to hoping someone gets held accountable so the victims' families get peace and closure.
