Bella Hadid and The Weeknd's breakup was treated by the media just like any other celebrity break up, until just a few months later he started dating Selena Gomez and it became a topic of conversation everywhere. The model has opened up to Teen Vogue about her heartbreak, and her desire to keep the peace with her ex-boyfriend, even going as far as admitting that she will always love him.
Bella revealed in the interview that it is not her first rodeo when it comes to heartbreak. Bella's first true love was a horse named Lego, the one she used to compete with when she was an equestrian. At 16, her battle with Lyme disease stopped her from following her dreams of competing at the Olympics which forced her to sell the horse, giving her her first real heartbreak of her life that she is still coping with.
“I rotated between a few horses that could jump higher or whatever. But Lego was my main, my ride or die. When I had to sell him, it was like a breakup! I was really traumatized. You can ask any equestrian: You develop a crazy, emotional connection with this animal. When you’re riding a horse, they have full control over you, and they can literally kill you in a second, so you build a trust with them.”
This is a similar experience it seems to her most recent breakup this past year with the "I Feel It Coming" singer. While they were together for over a year, they had quite the public relationship and the breakup was no different.
“It was my first breakup — or second, next to the horse — and so public. As an outsider, you might think I handled it so well, but it’s always in your heart, and you always feel it very heavily,” she said in regards to her making her debut at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show while her ex-boyfriend was performing on the same stage. Many said she handled it like a pro!
“It’ll be hard for a while. Love hurts, but you have to pull through. But I’ll always respect him, and I’ll always love him. Sometimes you want to be sad about it or handle it differently, but at the end of the day, you never want to burn a bridge that you’ve fought so hard to build.”
It is important that the model said that she still respects him and loves him, even when he started dating someone she knew so soon after their split. They had some ups and downs in their relationship but from what she said it is clear to tell that the model's love for Abel was the real deal.
