Camila Cabello exited Fifth Harmony nearly one year ago and well, a lot has happened since then. 5H has gone on as a four-piece girl group, releasing their third album, winnings tons of awards and letting it be known the dynamic in the band is better than it’s ever been. Camila has been making waves as a solo artist, scoring a huge success with her latest single “Havana,” winning awards herself and gearing up for the upcoming release of her album Camila on Jan. 12, 2018.

So when the singer stopped by SiriusXM to talk about her highly anticipated new album, she said fans shouldn’t expect to hear a ton of other artists singing on her songs with her, since she’s already been there done that during her time in Fifth Harmony.

“There isn’t really a lot of collaborations on my album just because I was finding my sound and my [voice] and so I really wanted to do just do that. I’ve collaborated for like five years, so it was good to kind of, just do that,” Camila said. “I remember feeling super nervous and scared at one point and then there was definitely a time where I was just like it doesn’t even matter that much, it’s just music. It’s not that deep! I think the more that I distanced myself from what people’s opinions were, the more I was like what does it matter what people’s opinions are? This is what I love to do.”

So there we have it. Camila is ready for everyone to hear just her and she’s in full-on solo artist mode, not really thinking about creating any more collaborations. She just released two new songs, “Never Be the Same” and “Real Friends,” and “Real Friends” is all about Camila, well looking for some good friends she can trust and open up to, something she might’ve lost during those final days with her former bandmates since it’s clear she’s not really friendly with Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui and Normani Kordei anymore. Take a look at the chorus:

“I’m just lookin’ for some real friends

All they ever do is let me down

Every time I let somebody in

Then I find out what they’re all about

I’m just lookin’ for some real friends

Wonder where they’re all hidin’ out

I’m just lookin’ for some real friends

Gotta get up out of this town”

Camila did say she wrote a lot of this album more than a year ago when she was going through some rough times, and perhaps the fallout with 5H might’ve inspired these truly honest lyrics. We may never know, but it’s clear Camila is doing just fine on her own now.
