Then there were three. That’s right, Union J is back to being a trio as the remaining group members – Josh Cuthbert, JJ Hamblett, and Jaymi Hensley shockingly revealed to fans that Casey Johnson has decided to part ways with the band only a year after joining.

The band issued an official statement on their Facebook page, revealing that Casey’s main reason for parting ways with the group was to pursue other career opportunities.

The full statement reads, “We are sad to announce that Casey is leaving Union J, in order to pursue other opportunities. It’s been a great year, having him onboard, but being in a band is like any other relationship and sometimes it just doesn't work out. Casey is an incredibly lovely, talented guy and a great friend to the band, so please go support him as well in his next venture and we wish him all the very best for the future. It feels now that the best way forward is to carry on as we originally started out…….as a three piece (Josh, Jaymi and JJ) As always, we’re grateful that we have such amazing fans. We’re all very excited about the new music that we've been working on and there are big plans ahead. The first single will be released August / September time, with the album early 2018 and we can’t wait to be out there promoting it. We are convinced that all of our supporters, (and hopefully some new ones as well) will love the new music, as much as we all do. Much Love, Josh, Jaymi and JJ xxx”

Since announcing the news, the group has wasted no time in showing fans their new lineup, even on social media. The guys reassured fans that new music was coming from them soon, by posting a picture of the trio on Instagram. They wrote, “The three amigos ?????? let's do this boys. Love you all for the continued support. Wait till you hear the new music ? gonna blow your socks off! Lucky to have he best fans in the world. ❤❤❤ boys. X”

Fan reactions have been a little mixed, with some genuinely upset that Casey will no longer be part of the group while others are excited to see what the guys will do with the remaining three members.

This news is of course surprising and very sudden, but it is nice to see that there are no hard feelings regarding the split. Perhaps it’s all for the best that the group will now remain as a trio.
