Scooter Braun and Justin Bieber have arguably navigated their way through Hollywood together, experiencing things for the first time together, seeing major success for the first time together and trying to overcome incredibly difficult obstacles for the first time together. It has been almost 10 years since Scooter discovered the Biebs on YouTube as he belted out his rendition of Chris Brown’s hit track, “With You.” Things have changed a lot since then and finally, Scooter is opening up about what exactly has gone down over the years.

Of course, he still hasn’t spilled all of Justin’s breakdown era details, but he’s explaining how he felt. He’s letting the world know just how difficult it was for him to see Justin go through this phase. And while Scooter has mentioned time and time again that he will let Justin tell his own story, these new quotes are giving fans a closer glimpse at what exactly happened – and how bad it really got. Scooter chatted with Complex’s Blueprint series and opened up about how no one believed he could make JB into one of the biggest artists in the world.

Scooter explained, “I know for my mom, when she finally understood what I did for living. We were at [Madison Square] Garden, at Z100 Jingle Ball, and Justin was like the fourth act in. It was his first Jingle Ball, and John Mayer, while he was performing, they started chanting ‘JUS-TIN! JUS-TIN!’ And John goes, ‘I know what you guys are here to see. I’ll do one more song, and I’ll leave.'”

But, that was just another high. The super lowest of the lows happened when Justin was around 18 years old. Scooter continued, “I think that’s his story to tell, and I think at the right time he’ll tell the complete story. I think — funny enough — his perspective and maybe some of who were there are going to be very different, because a lot of it, he doesn’t remember.”

He continued, “To me, the only point I had where it was, ‘Is it over?’ wasn’t a scary career over. I thought I was going to lose him. I thought he was going to die, you know? That was the scariest point, because he was an adult, so he could go away from me. I couldn’t force him to stay next to me. There were points where I didn’t know if in the morning he was going to be there, and I was petrified.” Wow. This is the first time Scooter has said those words, that he really thought Justin could die from his antics and that is completely terrifying. It’s hard to swallow for fans who don’t even know Justin on a personal level so we can’t even imagine how Scooter dealt with all of it.

Aside from the Justin drama, during the interview, Scooter revealed what it’s been like to work with Ariana Grande as well. He has been a major supporter of everything Ariana has done especially in the last several months after the Manchester Attacks. On social media, he couldn’t act any more proud of her. However, their relationship hasn’t always been as strong. Remember when they didn’t work together for a while? Scooter speaks to that period of his life.

He said, “One of my mentors taught me a long time ago that every single artist that I help and that I love will and could eventually f-ck me over. I’ve come to terms with that, so if I have to tell them the truth and that is my demise — OK. So be it.” When the mogul was asked if it has happened yet, without hesitation he said yes.

“Ariana! Ariana left me because I told her truth and she got very upset with me.” Scooter reportedly admitted that Ariana actually fired him during their feud, but then thought about it and reached out to him six months after everything went down. Scooter continued, “She’s like, ‘I’m sorry about that. Let’s get back to where we were.’ And we’re actually closer than we’ve ever been.” Again, all we can say is wow! This has got to be one of the most candid and honest interviews Scooter has done in a long time. He not only sets the record straight about his own feelings but also what he has gone through with these artists.

The important thing to take away from this interview is that Scooter wasn’t bashing Ariana or Justin and he wasn’t spilling their secrets. He was simply telling his side of the story. They too probably have their own versions. But, with Scooter’s words, fans can finally start to piece together some of the most complex puzzles in the music industry world.
