Demi Lovato is already making sure 2018 is her best year yet. She kicked off the new year with a kiss from her backup dancer up on stage in front of everyone and now, she's letting us all know she's continuing her streak of showing herself the love she deserves. The songstress took to Instagram to share a truly stunning pic of herself loving life on vacation, embracing her insecurities and tackling her eating disorder recovery head-on, like the boss she is.
In the photo, Demi is smiling from ear to ear while rocking some vintage black shades and a super cute striped bathing suit, striking a fun pose on the beach. She shared some heartfelt words in the caption of this shot though, admitting she at first didn't want to post this picture because she wasn't initially happy with how her legs look. But she quickly realized she's going to be focusing more on not being so critical of herself since imperfections are what makes us all truly unique and beautiful.
"So, I’m insecure about my legs in this picture but I’m posting it because I look so happy and this year I’ve decided I’m letting go of my perfectionism and embracing freedom from self criticism. Learning to love my body the way it is is challenging but life changing. Giving up my eating disorder has been the most challenging journey of my life but I work every day towards solid recovery even if I mess up sometimes. Today I’m feeling strong. You all can do it too. It IS possible. Thank you God for this new chapter in my life. #EDrecovery #happyAF," Demi wrote in the caption.
OK now let's be real: Demi looks AMAZING and she always does. But what's most important is that she's really focused on fully accepting herself and the fact that she continues to be so open with her fans about her personal struggles and her journey toward recovery is what makes Demi so inspirational. She also posted a pic on her Instagram story of some motivational words she wrote in the sand on the beach, a simple reminder we all need every now and then: "Love yourself."
In her documentary Simply Complicated, the "Sorry Not Sorry" singer admitted she had relapsed with her eating disorder, binging and purging right after she and her ex-boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama broke up. But it's so great to hear she's really working hard toward her recovery again and continuing her path to true self-love.
Sometimes when I'm having bad body image issue days, I remind myself that I'd rather live in freedom from my eating disorder than worry— Demi Lovato (@ddlovato) April 11, 2017
