KJ Apa effortlessly brings to life the one and only Archie Andrews on Riverdale and naturally, he’s given the beloved comic book character his own twist. This version of everyone’s fave redhead while still finding himself in the midst of a love triangle with Betty and Veronica, is a football player who happens to be an amazing musician too. On the show, we’ve been treated to some guitar playing and singing from our Archiekins and it’s always a delight.

Who knew Archie could sing so well, right? But most importantly, fans want to know if that actually is KJ’s lovely voice we’re hearing. Hey, we’re a little scarred from that whole Zac Efron didn’t sing in the first High School Musical movie, so don’t blame us for being a bit skeptical. But alas, that is indeed KJ singing and giving us those magical tunes on the guitar. And plot twist, he’s even more musically talented than he plays on TV. In fact, KJ doesn’t even think Archie is all that great. LOL.

“I don’t know how to say it, but we’re not at the same level, you know what I mean?” KJ said to The Last Magazine. “Somehow I have to say that in not a cocky way, but he’s a beginner. Also, the songs that he writes, I don’t think I would listen to them. I do not have the same taste in music as him. I listen to a bit of everything, but mostly classic rock and punk rock. I’m into harder stuff than Archie is.”

If you happen to follow KJ on Instagram, then you’ve been treated to videos on his Instagram Stories every now and then where he’s playing the guitar. And that means you’re well aware how ridiculously talented he is. Proof:

Seriously, he’s so good. And music has always been a passion of his, way before acting ever came along. Back in 2015, KJ sat down for an interview with his parents and they couldn’t help but gush over how proud they are of their son and how he’s really going after his music-related dreams.

“KJ’s always been an entertainer. He started piano when he was five and he sort of learned the guitar off YouTube to start with,” his mom said with his dad adding, “KJ’s very talented in music. He’s an amazing performer, he can play the guitar and he can actually sing really well too. We have to look at what God has actually given him and not be a barrier to the wonderful things that can be achieved. So it all comes back down to what does KJ want to do with his life and we just need to support him the best that we can.” HOW PRECIOUS.

And while KJ doesn’t sing all that often for us IRL, all of the songs he’s sang on Riverdale are available to stream on Spotify and Apple Music so you can listen to him whenever you want. He did have an album come out actually when he was just 14 years old called The Third Room that is KJ all by himself playing the electric guitar. If that doesn’t prove he’s a musical legend already, then we don’t know what will! So in case, anyone ever asks you, it most certainly is KJ himself performing those songs on Riverdale, like the boss he is.
