Chloe Celeste Hosterman, and although those closest to her still call her "Chloe," she got her name legally changed to "Dove" as an homage to her father. "So basically, Chloe is my birth name. It's on my birth certificate," she told StyleWatch. "But my dad always called me Dove – as like a nickname. He called my sister Flower, and he called me Dove – more than he ever called me Chloe. And like Dovey, Dovely, Dove-Love. Like that was just his nickname. You know, like some dads call their daughters Sugar Pie or something. But mine just sounded a lot more like a name than a lot of them. It's not like my sister was gonna go by Flower. You know what I mean? And he actually – he passed away when I was 15, and I decided to legally change it."
Dove was born January 15th, 1996 which makes her 21-years-old and a Capricorn!
She's a pint-sized girl, standing at a mere 5'2,'' and that tininess is often amplified by all boyfriends that tend to tower over her!
Dove was born in Seattle and grew up in Bainbridge Island, Washington. Though she's a natural star, Dove definitely has fond memories of her time there. "I 100% miss living in a small town, night drives in the rain to Walmart, getting pints of ice cream to stay up all night with my best friends," she once tweeted.
Like many actresses, Dove set up shop in Los Angeles, but it took some guts to make the move. "The first and only thing I went out for when I lived in Seattle was True Grit," she once admitted. "I had no training and I didn't even have a headshot. It ended up coming down to Hailee [Steinfeld], who got the role, one other girl, and me. That's when my parents decided that was enough to move me out to L.A."

Dove's very first role was a guest spot as bad girl Holly Hemiker in Shameless. Her big break, however, came about when she landed a starring role(s) on Liv & Maddie.
There was a moment, however, when Dove felt she wasn't able to handle the responsibility, already under stress from the sudden loss of her father. "But I was sobbing to my mom, who helped me weigh the pros and cons, and I finally got clear-eyed when I realized that Disney Channel is for kids," She told Entertainment Weekly. "And I love kids. And I was going to get to work with kids all the time. And I started to cry all over again. Because what a treat, to be able to be someone for kids, to be a good role model, to be a big sister because I never was one." Aw!

Incidentally, you may have wondered if Dove in fact played Liv or Maddie. But this isn't a Zack and Cody thing, guys, Dove doesn't have a twin sister and in fact took on both roles. She does, however, have an older sister named Claire Hosterman, and the two appear to be v v close!

At age 15, Dove's life was touched by tragedy when her father died from suicide, but through her pain she's never faltered in loving and, more importantly, understanding him. "He took his own life, and he also was closeted, which we only found out after he died," she told Entertainment Weekly. "When I found that out, I was like, everything adds up. He was such a sensitive person. He had bursts of anger, but he was also so beautiful and he designed jewelry and went to the Peace Corps."
Ok, you die-hard Dove fans all know the answer to this one, but let's try to unpack it real quick for the newbies. No, Dove is not married. She did, however, get engaged to Liv and Maddie co-star Ryan McCartan after three years of dating.
"Calling you my 'boyfriend' never really felt right anyway. Fiancée looks better on you," she announced on Instagram. Sadly, the two broke up after a six month engagement.
Welp, following the announcement, Ryan tweeted that the pair wanted different things and it was hard, but cordial. "Dove has decided this relationship isn't what she wants," he said. "We still love each other very much. Please be sensitive, as this is painful. "
And on Dove's end, she replied to an Instagram comment saying Ryan was "terrible" to her during the relationship.
At the moment, Dove is very much in love with her Descendants 2 co-star Thomas Doherty (and, God, can you blame her with that jawline?).
Apparently, their romantic tension was palpable from day one, and it oozed all over the set. "You know that scene with the hook almost got cut because the chemistry was so intense that [everyone] were like, 'The audience is gonna think this is about Mal and Harry," Dove told us exclusively. To make sense of it all, she had to create a whole backstory with director Kenny Ortega. Kenny and I and Thomas came up with this backstory in the first week of rehearsals. Me and Thomas' chemistry was so intense, even off camera, like just in rehearsals, but we didn’t know it. But people were like, 'When you guys walk into a room together, it’s insane. Have you ever talked to him?' And I’m like, 'No, not really.' And they’re like, 'You need to.'
But once they knew they could really fall in love with each other, they both burst into tears...so to speak.
"Me and Tommy had a staring contest for like 10 minutes and that was the first time we were like 'Oh my god I could fall for you.'" Dove told RAW, stating that nobody won, ultimately. "We both ended up crying." Awww.
As Disney Channel royalty, Dove's making it rain with her hit show in the rearview mirror and the Descendants franchise going strong. It's estimated that her current net worth is about 3 million dollars!
