Every Avenue is in the middle of a whirlwind year -- they hit the road on the 2010 Alternative Press Tour, had their own headlining tour in the U.K. followed by their headlining Motel 6 "Rock Yourself To Sleep" Tour in the U.S., and starting October 3, they'll head out again on the Fearless Friends Tour with Mayday Parade, Breathe Carolina, Artist Vs Poet, and Go Radio. J-14 sat down with guitarist Josh Randall and drummer Dennis Wilson to talk about their headlining tours, their fave bands to tour with, and howJustin Bieber is influencing them!
J-14: What was the coolest part headlining a tour this summer?
Josh Randall: It was our first full U.S. headliner. Motel 6 sponsored it, and that definitely offsets a lot of the tour costs because a lot of bands are struggling -- it's tough on everyone.
J-14: Which band has been your favorite to tour with?
Josh: We've been pretty fortunate and toured with a lot of bands. There are only a select few bands that we didn't click with -- pretty much every band we've ever toured with we've become really good friends with. All Time Low has definitely helped us out a lot. We toured with Breathe Carolina and Sing It Loud on the Motel 6 tour. Never Shout Never [Christofer Drew] is a laid-back dude.
J-14: Do your family and friends understand how hard it is to be on the road so much?
Josh: Definitely. The ones that are there are the ones that mean the most. This band has helped me weed out a lot of bad girlfriends.
J-14: What's your favorite song to perform?
Dennis Wilson: "Tell Me I'm A Wreck" is the most fun live.
Josh: It is definitely that one and also "A Girl Like That" -- that one's fun.
Dennis: I concur.
J-14: What music is influencing the band today?
Josh: The Biebs, obviously -- more hairstyles than actual music. Slipknot is an influence.
Dennis: Everyone in the band except for me likes John Mayer.
J-14: What were you like at 14?
Josh: I started playing guitar between eighth and ninth grades. I was trying to play in my first band around 14. All of those bands were really bad, but we had a lot of fun.
Dennis: That was about the first time I started playing drums. Maybe kissed my first girl.
Josh: I think eighth or ninth grade was my first kiss.
J-14: What's the first CD you ever bought?
Dennis: Green Day's Dookie -- that was the first one I wanted.
Josh: I think my first CD was MXPX's Pokinatcha.
