Meet Kaya, a singer who records with Ark Music Factory, the same people who did Rebecca Black's "Friday." J-14 chatted with the singer about her music and whether she'd ever do a duet with Justin Bieber. Kaya's song "Starlight" can be heard on Ballroom Remixed, an album from So You Think You Can Dance choreographer Melanie LaPatin.
J-14: Can you describe your sound to our readers?
Kaya: My sound is fun dance-pop. I like songs that are made for dancing, but still have a good melody.
J-14: Who are your musical influences?
K: I love Beyonce because of her fierceness and her ability to completely own the stage no matter what she's doing. And as a kid, I always used to listen to the Beatles. They have so many unforgettable melodies. They changed everything about music when they hit the scene!
J-14: You said you were planning a duet. Would you consider doing one with Justin Bieber?
K: Who wouldn't want to do a duet with Justin Bieber?! He has such amazing charisma and stage presence. I really respect how far he has come in such a short time.
J-14: Who's your dream collaboration?
K: If I could collaborate with anyone in the world tomorrow, it would definitely be Justin Timberlake. I love his style and the way his sound has changed over time. I may also have a chance to work later this summer with Melanie LaPatin, one of the choreographers from So You Think You Can Dance. We may do a music video for "Glamaholic," my song from Melanie's Ballroom Remixed album. Still in discussions, so very suspenseful. But I am a dance freak, so this would be a dream come true for me!
J-14: Give us three reasons why we should listen to your music.
K: J-14 readers are AWESOME because they pay attention to what's going on in the music world and to what the new trends are. I think they would find my tunes, like "Starlight," fun and upbeat. My goal is to get everyone out there dancing. And I have some stuff coming up that I think -- well, I HOPE -- will really blow people away!
