Greyson Chance has decided to share a personal update with the world: the singer took to Instagram to publicly come out as gay. He shared a heartfelt message to all his fans, explaining that why now at 19 years old, he felt it was the right time to open up about his sexuality, something he had remained private about until now.

"The decision to write this came after I received a message from a brave individual. Such message inspired me to shed light on an aspect of my private life which I have kept distant from my career in music," Greyson wrote in the caption of his post of the rainbow LGBT pride flag.

"I came to fully recognize that I was gay when I was sixteen. I decided not to publicize my sexuality largely due to a matter of privacy, as I was still trying to find comfort and confidence within my own skin. Further, I always found conversations regarding music, politics, art, books – and the greatness of Nas’ catalog – to be far more interesting than what type of guy I was into. This is still true today. While this message is most definitely overdue, I encourage anyone who is navigating their sexuality to devote as much time as they need to the process of finding self-confidence, self-acceptance, and self-love. Hell, for me, it took years to write this message. Nevertheless, I figured now was the time to let a few more friends know that I am happy, I am here for you, and I am proud of who I am. Cheers -G."

How amazing it is that while he's sharing his own experiences, he wants to be able to be there and help anyone else who might be struggling as they come to terms with who they are? Beyond selfless. Greyson really shot to fame back in 2010 when he was only 12 years old and a video of him performing Lady Gaga's song "Paparazzi" went viral and landed him an appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show. And you know Ellen only bring outs the best of the best on her show!

Since then, he's still been making music, most recently recording a cover of the song "Hungry Eyes" for the Dirty Dancing television movie that aired on ABC. We're sending all our love to Greyson for sharing this speical moment with us all.
