There's no doubt about it that Harry Styles has a different way of doing things when it comes to his solo music compared to what he sang during his time with One Direction. The sound and tone lean more toward the rock genre rather than pop. But, that doesn't mean teen girls everywhere still aren't falling for him. They may actually be falling for the British heartthrob more now than ever before. However, we can't help but wonder if it's all meticulously calculated by Hazza himself.
He just dropped the music video for his track "Kiwi" and it not only involves a classroom of the cutest kids ever but also cupcakes and puppies. Seriously, Harry? What more could a girl ask for? Obviously, he knows what he's doing. But, there's much more to the "Kiwi" video than Harry just thinking about girls becoming weak in the knees at the sight of a little pup – there's so much more.
There are actually lots of secret messages in the video that reference One Direction, Dunkirk, the X-Factor and several other major milestones and important quotes Harry has said over the past couple of years. He is starting to become an icon and this video certainly adds to that title. We've listed all of the secret messages Harry is trying to tell the fandom below and they will legitimately blow your mind.
Let's just start out by saying that the "Kiwi" video is complete madness and there's no mention or reference to the actual kiwi fruit throughout the entire thing. Now that we've got that out of our systems, let's begin decoding all of the secret messages Harry has so graciously left for the One Direction fandom. After watching the video several times, it's clear Hazza knows what he's doing.
First of all, the overall plot of the video is a food fight in a school gymnasium which looks like it takes place in a different time period than modern day. The one thing we noticed with the kids is that THREE of them are dressed in classic Harry suits with the floral patterns, bell-bottomed pants, you know, the whole nine yards.
If fans remember correctly, Harry posted THREE blank and captionless Instagram photos before he released his "Sign of the Times" artwork. He did the same thing with three blank and captionless posts before his Another Man magazine covers came out. These three kids dressed like him could represent a new age for him in music video history.
The baked goods literally never end. The whole video is focused on a food fight with cupcakes, cakes, cookies, pies and literally any type of delicious dessert you can think of. This could be his way of his saying, 'Yes, this is where I came from.' The kind of music he's now singing might be different than what he sang in One Direction, but it is the music he may have grown up on. It may have been the type of music he listened to while he worked his first jobs as a young teen. The person he is today all comes back to that boy in the bakery.
There is one child in the video that is dressed in the same suit as Harry and it just so happens that this particular kid is a girl. As we know, Harry actually believes that girls are the future which is probably why the music video has a girl coming in full force with a tub of cupcake ammunition for the food fight.
Harry chatted with Rolling Stone and said, "Young girls like the Beatles. You gonna tell me they're not serious? How can you say young girls don't get it? They're our future. Our future doctors, lawyers, mothers, presidents, they kind of keep the world going. Teenage-girl fans – they don't lie. If they like you, they're there. They don't act 'too cool.' They like you, and they tell you. Which is sick."
The girl in this video encompasses everything Harry sounds like he believes young girls are. She is feisty, she is independent, she's wearing a suit because she's fashion-forward AF and she's about to outsmart every boy in that gym.
Ever since starting his solo career, Harry has dressed in a more eccentric way and his old bandmates have taken notice. Liam Payne joked that he wouldn't let Harry babysit his son, Bear Payne, because of the new style. He said, "I couldn't rely on Harry 'cos I feel like my child would come out dressed in something that I just wouldn't understand."
While this might be far stretch this could be a reference to that whole thing. These kids are styled in a way Liam would never dress Bear in but they look like legit stars so it has become cool. Harry seems to try and blur the gender lines with girls wearing suits in the video and bring out a type of dress that some people really wouldn't understand. He's been a huge supporter of being able to be the person you want to be regardless of age, gender or race.
This could also be a reference to the way Harry wished he could have dressed as a child. I mean, just look at this kid above. He's got long hair and a floral suit on, if that doesn't scream how inner Harry Styles feels we don't know what does.
