Harry Styles has come a long way from the 16-year-old boy with the floppy curls who worked in the bakery and stepped foot on the X Factor stage, unaware that he was about to embark on a whole new life as a member of One Direction. We all know how the story goes: Harry along with Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik made history together becoming one of the biggest boy bands ever and after five years together and Zayn left a few months prior, they went on a hiatus, with each member of the group doing his own thing. Harry has released a solo album, starred in a movie and is on tour, so he’s kept busy. And in a new interview with CBS Sunday Morning, he reflected on his time with 1D and shared that yes, he had the best time ever because what teenager wouldn’t want to live out his or her life dream when it’s handed to them?

“When you’re from a small village and you go on the show and Simon Cowell says ‘You guys are going to be in a band together,’ you’re not going to say no. And that was so exciting,” Harry said.
“You take five kids who’ve never been in the music industry, you put them in a band together and suddenly they’re having so much fun, it’s really difficult to not just have the best time of your life doing this new thing.”

Fair enough. Hazza and the boys really hit the jackpot in a sense, although they had no idea how successful they were going to be. Harry said he just looked at it as a fun alternative to going to school until the band really started playing shows together and it hit him that he was a part of something special.

“First of all, it’s fun because you’re not at school. You’re already like, oh I get to go to rehearsals and sing some songs, and then go home and order a pizza. You’re already winning,” Harry said. “I think when we started doing shows, it was a lot easier to kind of gauge if people liked us or not and I think the feeling of having someone come to your show, they’ve bought a ticket and they’ve driven and they’ve parked a car and they’ve come in and they’re coming to see you. And that is a feeling I don’t really know how to describe properly. Not only are they showing you they’re a fan by buying a ticket, they then sing along with the songs and they cheer when you’re finished and that is like the nicest thing anyone could ever do for someone.”

Brb, crying. Harry has always made it clear he embraces his 1D past and the fans that have been by his side the entire time. He might’ve ended up in One Direction by chance, but we happen to think this was always meant to be Harry’s fate. It might’ve started out as a fun way to not have to go sit in class and hang out with your new friends, but it’s turned into something much greater. Oh and Harry went on to say that he actually did enjoy all the music he made with the band.

“Yeah, I did. All the way to the end,” he said.
