We're all so excited for the 2012 summer Olympic Games to start tonight on NBC! Every time we watch, we can't help but wonder just what it would be like to compete in them. Well, J-14 got to sit down and chat with world-champion gymnast, Jordyn Wieber -- and pick her brain about what it's really like to be an Olympic athlete at only 17 years old! She spoke to us about her partnership with Kellogg's Corn Flakes, and what she is most excited for in the upcoming Olympic Games. And remember: be sure to tune in tonight to watch Jordyn at the opening ceremony!
J-14: Tell how you first became interested in gymnastics. Jordyn Wieber: I was about 2 or 3 years old and my parents noticed I had this natural muscle definition and a lot of energy so they enrolled me in a gymnastics program. At first it was just a recreational class, but at around 6 or 7 years old, I joined a competitive team. Then, when I was 10, I joined the Elite Team. Everyone, including my parents, have been fully supportive of all of my goals and really encourage me to do my best.
J-14: Wow! What are you looking most forward to about being part of the U.S. Olympic team? Jordyn: I'm just looking forward to the experience as a whole - it truly is a dream and it's an honor to represent the USA.
J-14: You've come so far -- now you even have your own Kellogg's Corn Flakes box! How did you get involved with that? Jordyn: I'm pretty excited to be working with Kellogg's on their "From Great Starts Come Great Things" program. Breakfast is just such an important part of my day, especially with all of my training. If I don't sit down in the morning to have a bowl of cereal, I won't have the energy I need to have successful practice.
J-14: What was your reaction the first time you saw your face on a cereal box? Jordyn: It was so cool to see my face on the Kellogg's Corn Flakes box! I never imagined that it would ever happen - it was surreal almost. It hits shelves on July 3 and I can't wait for everyone to see it!
J-14: Even though you're a superstar athlete, you're still just a regular girl at heart! Who are some of your favorite celebs right now? Jordyn: In general, I love One Direction - my favorite members are Zayn, Harry and Liam. But when I work out or to get me ready to compete, I listen to anything with inspirational lyrics - like, "Believe" by Justin Bieber and "Fighter" by Gym Class Heroes.
