J-14 Exclusive: Jordyn Wieber Talks Olympics, London, and One Direction

On Wednesday, J-14 Magazine caught up with Olympic gold medal gymnast Jordyn Wieber just moments before she was welcomed home by fans at a local AT&T store in Novi, MI.

Jordyn was there to help raise awareness about the dangers of texting while driving as part of AT&T's It Can Wait campaign.

J-14 Magazine: What has it been like to return home to Michigan as a Olympic gold medal winner?

Jordyn Wieber: It's just so surreal. Even now thinking back about just being at the Olympics, I can't even believe that I made it! it's definitely exciting to be home and knowing that everybody back home was supporting me.

J-14: Where is the medal now?

Jordyn: Right now it's at my house, but I'm going to display it probably in my room. My room is very girly -- I have hot pink walls and a leopard print comforter and girly stuff everywhere.

J-14: What do you miss most about London?

Jordyn: I think the thing I miss the most is the accents. I just love the British accents. The five of us were talking in our normal voice half the time and the other half we were talking British. We used "brilliant" a bunch of times and we always used "lovely" and things like that.

J-14: We noticed you're foot is injured -- what happened?

Jordyn: I have a boot on my foot. I have a stress fracture in my shin. It was a little bit harder [to compete], but once I got out on the competition floor, the adrenaline took over -- I didn't really feel it that much. The only thing that really affected me was in training I wasn't able to do the full amount of numbers. But in the end, you can't have any regrets. Injuries just come with the sport -- you have to learn to deal with them and work through them.

J-14: Have you been back in the gym after the Olympics?

Jordyn: I definitely took a bit of a break, but I've been in the gym the last couple of days, just moving my body, doing as much as I can with my injury and getting ready for the Kellogg's tour, which will be starting in a couple of weeks.

J-14: You've been Tweeting with the 'Teen Wolf' cast -- how did that happen?

Jordyn: The other day, I had mentioned that 'Teen Wolf' was my favorite show. And then my best friend and I were watching 'Teen Wolf' -- and they happened to Tweet me while I was watching. It was just so ironic. I was literally up in my room screaming -- I was so excited!

J-14: If you could guest star on the show, who would you play?

Jordyn: If they asked me to be on the show, I would definitely take advantage of that. That's by far my favorite. I probably would be a love interest for Scott... maybe.

J-14: You'll be at the MTV VMAs in a few weeks -- who are you most looking forward to seeing?

Jordyn: I'm looking forward to maybe meeting Justin Bieber, Beyoncé, and the cast of 'Teen Wolf' if they're there.

J-14: And you just missed One Direction at the Olympics Closing Ceremony -- but they'll be at the VMAs too!

Jordyn: I know, we were really sad. I think it will be really exciting if we get to meet them. I was looking forward to seeing them at the Closing [Ceremony], so this will be even better.

J-14: What do you hope that teens everywhere learn from your example?

Jordyn: From personal experience, I know that if you have a dream and you just work for it every single day, then you can reach your goals. I know it's possible because I reached my ultimate dream of going the Olympics. So for all the young girls, if they remember that, they can achieve anything!

J-14: So will we see you at the next Summer Olympics in Rio in 2016?

Jordyn: I still haven't decided yet. Hopefully I can stay in the sport as long as I can. Rio is always definitely always in the back of my mind. Basically we're all dealing with it one day at a time and dealing with things as they come.
