Hey J-14ers!
I've never really been a fan of sci-fi action-adventure movies. (I'd much prefer a cheesy, romantic comedy!) But, after seeing Disney's new 3D epic, John Carter, I was forced to change my ways! The film stars Taylor Kitsch, known for his role in Friday Night Lights (swoon, Tim Riggins!), as John Carter, a heart-broken Civil War veteran who is mysteriously transported to the war-torn planet Mars (known to those who live there as "Barsoom").
Adapted from Edgar Rice Burroughs' novel, A Princess of Mars, John Carter is called upon to save the planet from the major conflict brewing from the Red and Blue sides. In the process of defending the Martians, John meets the Princess Dejah, who is struggling to find a way to bring together the war-torn planet. She has agreed to marry a man she doesn't love in order to bridge the gap between the two sides, but then she falls for John and begins to question if her impending marriage is really the best way to resolve the conflict. But, right when things look to be happily ever after for the Princess and John, the former soldier is sent back to Earth and must find a way to return to his new home and bride.
Equal parts romance and adventure, John Carter is truly a sight to be seen. With tons of crazy computer animation (think: the aliens who inhabit the planet and over-the-top spaceships) and spectacular live action performances (Taylor can leap over mountains in a single bound), this movie will surely keep you on your edge of the seat!
