J-14 is scouting out the hottest bands around... and this week's pick is Amely.
Here are five things you need to know about Amely, whose debut album Hello World just hit stores!
Orland, FL-based Amely is made up of singer Petie Pizarro, bassist Patrick Ridgen, and drummer Nate Parsell, and guitarist Brandon Walden. Petie originally came up with the name for his old band. "It was rejected for that band, so I used it as the name for my solo project, which eventually evolved into Amely," Pete tells J-14.
Petie says the most personal song to him actually didn't make the EP! But he loves "Come Back To Me," and he says if you listen to it, it will be easy to guess why.
Amely used to have a backstage ritual of huddling and chanting before every show. "One night we forgot to do the huddle, and played the most amazing show ever -- we no longer do the huddle!" Petie says.
The band did a cover of Miley Cyrus' "The Climb" because their manager was obsessed with it. "We felt like it would be an amazing ubpeat song, so we went that direction with it," Petie explains. "In the early days of touring, that song really helped us connect with new fans, so thank you, Miley!"
In the almost two years that Amely has been around, they've hit the road a ton, including a show with All Time Low and a tour with The Downtown Fiction. It made Petie realize he has to bring one thing from home with him -- his favorite pillow! "It travels with me everywhere I go -- I love that thing," he admits.
