J-14 is scouting out the hottest bands around... and this week's pick is He is We.
Here are five things you need to know about He is We, whose album My Forever is out now!
Rachel Taylor and Trevor Kelly make up Tacoma, WA-based band He is We. Rachel and Trevor were working together in a music store and writing songs about a year and a half ago when they decided to form a band. "'He Is We' basically means we are all in this thing together," Rachel tells J-14. "No one is better than anyone else. We're all people just trying to live our lives on Earth together."
Rachel explains that He is We's single "Happily Ever After" came about when she was trying to write a country song! "Then it kind of just turned into an actual story," she says. "Trevor and I thought it was awesome and, ta-da! 'Happily Ever After' is about growing up, being unsure about the future and wanting that picture-perfect life."
"Forever and Ever" is the most personal song to Rachel off He Is We's album My Forever. "It's about truly finding love and realizing love isn't a feeling or a moment or a set of conditions. Love is forever and ever," she says.
Rachel is influenced by rappers, especially Jay-Z. "Can't deny the Jigga man!" she tells J-14. "I would love to collaborate with Kid Cudi. His flow and cadence is too good."
He is We will be touring with Barcelona and Lady Danville from February 13-19 before The Love is All Around Us tour (featuring Scene Aesthetic, Carter Hulsey, and Plug In Stereo) kicks off on February 23 at School of Rock East in South Hackensack, NJ. Get a full list of tour dates here. So what's been He is We's fave place to tour so far? Toronto! "They're a great bunch -- I literally couldn't hear myself, they were singing along so loud," Rachel says. "Plus, poutine (fries covered in cheese and gravy)? Yes, please! J.Biebs and Drake, Toronto knows what's up!"
