J-14 is scouting out the hottest bands around... and this week's pick is Just Kait.
Here are five things you need to know about Just Kait, whose debut EP, Being On TV, is out now!
Just Kait is literally just Kait! "I actually wanted to make it a band name," Kait explains to J-14. "It's kind of my fault because I played all the instruments. I was like, 'I play guitar, I play bass, I play drum.' It's just me playing on the record, so that's how that name came. I'm not necessarily totally into it because I'm not one of those stuck-up people who likes everything to be about me, so it's kind of ironic that that's what it is."
Just Kait is currently on the road with Honor Society and Ashlyne Huff, and they'll wrap up the tour on May 8 in Atlanta, GA. Check out a full list of tour dates here.
You may know Kait from her take on "Hot Stuff," which she covered the song for MTV's Turn The Beat Around -- and the music station is how she got her start to begin with. "I saw a contest to re-do the theme song for Parental Control, so I sent in my version," she tells J-14. "They called me back immediately and checked out my other songs and wanted to do a partnership deal."
Kait's biggest musical influence is Paramore. "Hayley Williams is like God to me," she says. "As a female in music, she's given me a little more motivation to keep doing what I do."
Kait played a few shows with Justin Bieber and says he's a really nice guy. "He was just chill -- he made fun of me for not wanting to drink the water that was there at the show," she says. "It was like celery water, and I was like 'Oh my god, that's gross.' He's like, 'You don't drink these? Dude it's fancy stuff so drink it!'"
