J-14 is scouting out the hottest bands around... and this week's pick is Kicking Daisies.
Here are five things you need to know about Kicking Daisies, whose single "Keeping Secrets" is out now.
Milford, CT-based Kicking Daisies is a made up of singer Duran Visek, drummer Caitlin Kalafus, guitarist Ben Spremulli, and bassist Carly Kalafus, and they're one of the finalists for Disney Radio's N.B.T. (Next Big Thing). "The name balances out the heavy and the light, the boys versus the girls -- "kicking" is the heavy and "daisies" is the light," Carly explains.
The group was the youngest band to perform at this year's Bamboozle Festival, and they were psyched to see their favorite band, Paramore, play at the same show. "I met Paramore when I was 12 when they were playing in New Haven," Carly tells J-14. "My dad was outside and met the road manager. He hooked it up so that at the end of the show I would get up and play drums with the band. They were really nice and awesome. Hayley [Williams] remembers me and knows about us!"
Kicking Daisies is set to play six East Coast shows between October 6 and November 19. Get official tour dates here.
Carly's favorite Kicking Daisies track is "Breathing." "Caitlin and I wrote it -- it has a lot of emotion and is powerful," she says.
Now 17-year-old Caitlin was named America's fastest female drummer by NAMM (the National Association of Music Merchants) she was 13.
