J-14 is scouting out the hottest bands around... and this week's pick is Mayday Parade!
Here are five things you need to know about Derek Sanders, Jeremy Lenzo, Alex Garcia, Brooks Betts, and Jake Bundrick:
Mayday Parade was formed four years ago when two local bands from Tallahassee, FL joined forces. The band is made up of five members: bassist Jeremy Lenzo, lead guitarist Alex Garcia, drums and percussionist Jake Bundrick, rhythm guitarist Brooks Betts, and lead vocalist Derek Sanders. "We all had sort of our own problems within their band, like people who couldn't tour or weren't dedicated enough or good enough musicians." Jeremy told J-14. "So we decided to come together to start one band with people who had the same mindset to tour and to actually make it out there."
Their unique pop-rock indie sound and relatable lyrics helped them skyrocket to fame with two studio albums, two EPs, and many compilation appearances under their belt. They even recorded a cover of Queen's classic "We Are The Champions" for Punk Goes Classic Rock and Jason Derulo's "In My Head" for Punk Goes Pop 3.
Jeremy told J-14 that the band has many musical influences including Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, Jimmy Eat World, along with individual preferences. "I know Jake likes Green Day. Brooks' in to Guns and Roses. Derek likes Queen. Alex is a huge Led Zeppelin fan so all of that comes together to form this sound for Mayday Parade."
Alex thinks their music has definitely transformed throughout the years between A Lesson In Romantics and Anywhere but Here. "I feel like we've grown as musicians and we've also grown by being able to play well together. I feel like we've all just matured musically and that applies to the lyrics and the music that we play."
Currently about to embark on a month long tour throughout Europe, Mayday has a lot to be excited about with a new album set to be released in the near future. "It'll most likely be [out] in the fall, October or something like that. But new album, it's going to be awesome. We're pumped and we want everyone to hear it," Derek told J-14.
