J-14 is scouting out the hottest bands around... and this week's pick is Plug In Stereo!
Here are five things you need to know about Plug In Stereo, whose album Nothing to Something is out now!
Hailing from Portland, OR, Plug In Stereo was first formed singer Trevor Dahl's freshman year of high school, though he had been playing the guitar since sixth grade. Some friendly competition began with his brother who began to play guitar too. "I got jealous, wanted to be better than him." Trevor joked to J-14.
The pop/indie band started off using just Trevor's name until he was promoting his music on Myspace and posted a bulletin asking for band name suggestions. "Someone suggested the name Plug In Stereo so I just took it," Trevor told J-14.
One of the most meaningful songs for Trevor on his newest album that dropped last month, "Nothing to Something" is a song called 'Thursday', which is about someone close to him that passed away.
Trevor told us that some of his biggest musical inspirations are by singer-song writers including John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Jason Reeves, and Taylor Swift.
The stars were aligned when Trevor was in the studio recording his latest album. Rising singer-songwriter Cady Groves happened to be recording next door and the two came together for an awesome duet on Plug In Stereo's album called "Oh Darling." "She's a nice girl and really talented," Trevor told J-14.
